    And these are the results:
    Parking brake: 100 decibels
Driving with window down: 85 decibels
    Bunk heater: 69 decibels
    Air horn: 106 decibels
    City horn: 89 decibels

Perhaps most importantly of all, driving with the windows up subjects your ears to 75 decibels of constant noise. According to cdc.gov, Noise above 70 dB over a prolonged period of time may start to damage your hearing. So unless you want to develop tinnitus and/or hearing loss, protect your hearing whenever you are driving. And if you don't think this is a serious issue, consider the fact that hearing does not come back when lost. You want to be able to hear your grandkids without having to rely on hearing aids, right? Not only that, but the constant ringing in the ears that often results from hearing loss, aka tinnitus, has driven some to commit suicide. Wish I didn't have to learn this the hard way :(

I mean.. I guess. Idk dude the more I think about the day I come home and can’t hear the chick #####ing about whatever it was she was #####ing about last night, the more appealing it sounds. (No pun intended)

You picked kind of a random health topic about trucking. But the fact is, this topic Hass to get in line with about 101 other reasons trucking can be unhealthy. Lol it is what it is, you learn to adapt and live with it and do the best you can do, or you find a different career. Most of us know, OTR work it’s not the picture of perfect health. But we do what we gotta do.

Yes but while you are losing your hearing, isn’t in nice to hear the jakes through a nice resonator?

Or the sound of screeching tires and a horn honking cause someone got latched on to the trailer and your dragging them down the road cause we don’t check our mirrors these days either. I understand the point the OP is trying to get at. But at what level of hearing protection does it create a safety issue. I have no idea honestly but to me that would be the other side of the coin

Not worried. Hearing loss is hereditary in my family. Everyone had to get hearing aids. I’m next in line.

I have issue with the scale. Over 70 is bad? A bunk heater isn’t loud but you have it listed at 69. According to the scale, most noises will cause hearing loss.

I have the same issue with BMI chart. Look at what “they say I should weigh. I would look like a crackhead!! I guess I wouldn’t be obese (laughable) but I would be very weak as I would be a bag of bones.

Moral to my opinion, just go to work and do your job. If the stats “they” put out worry you, lock yourself up in the house. It worked for Covid, right?

A few years ago l had some pretty serious issues with my hearing. I had to resort to wearing the foam type ear plugs. I was concerned about the same things you said. I was surprised to find that those types of sound carried through fine. It did help with the low frequency rumbling and pressure changes that were causing me issues. It did also take the edge off if sharp noises such as hammering on steel. Going in and out of steel mills and stamp shops etc l noticed it more
It didn't cure it but it made it more comfortable to drive all day without seeming to lose any hearing of normal everyday things like the radio or CB etc.
