Since maobama care got enacted OD isn't the only one gutting their insurance policies for their employees and their spouses. I used to work for Pitt Ohio and they did the same and even told us it was because of the ACA (maobamacare).
OD isn't the only one with crazy OT policies either. Pitt Ohio makes you run for 3 years before getting OT on the P&D side, but at least then one gets it after 40 hours. A former TM from Pitt called me to come work for him at Central Transport and said they don't pay OT until 55 hours for P&D and make line haul drivers unload their own trailers in the morning upon returning from your runs... I told him thanks but no thanks![]()
So I met an Old Dominion driver today at a rest stop... here's how it went

Sister company ECM it's straight pay after 40. Wasn't aware of Pitt-Ohio charade.

obamacare is just an excuse. they dont want to offer anything that the drivers wont accept. if it keeps goinvlg at this rate, guys will consider themselves lucky to have a 401k with NO match in 10 years.

this is why holland is still a top of the line job, when you factor in the benefits, and ALL time paid for, it still pays great. the only job i would trade holland for would be upsf, and even then, i dunno, i HATE uniforms....

That may well be true, I know that Pitt was claiming to getting hit with the Cadillac health care plan tax because the insurance is so good and the company pays for every bit of it, so the owner claimed that eliminating the spousal coverage balanced the costs out. Pitt hasn't matched the 401 contributions for years as they offer profit sharing. But of course when they claim it's a "lean" year, they don't contribute to the profit sharing either
Shaggy and already gone Thank this. -
Ive heard Dependable Highway Express (DHE) p/d drivers get 100% straight pay, no o/t whatsoever. I would LOVE to hear a company exec's justification for not paying overtime
Dominick253 Thanks this. -
the explanation will be something like this. "the drivers dont have a contract, i can do whatever i want".....

Thing that annoys me about the health care insurance. Wife covers her older kids, and it's $40 Wife and 3 kids, $40 Wife and 2 kids, $40 Wife and 1 kid - doesn't matter. Kids never go to the doctor anyway - what do most 18-26 year olds need to go to the doc for anyway?
And I've always loved that one. "You worked hard this year - we made lots of money. Here's a bonus!"
Then . . . "You worked hard this year - we made SOME money, Sorry - No bonus!"
I know I know - go and form my own company. I just like to evaluate employers idea of "fair employment practices" -
One guy told me PDFL doesn't pay overtime because they don't want to end up in debt with the amount of overtime they would have to pay to their drivers who work 50-60 hour weeks. Hence why they got some newer trucks on the road.

The new trucks have radios.
