Hi!!!! Im new to the forums, I will be attending the Millington TN Swift Academy in about 4 weeks. I was wondering is Swift one of the better companys to work for? I have heard of people getting back from over the RD with there mentor and not having a truck ready for them when they get back and having to wait a good 3-4 weeks. Anyone have that problem? Thanks for your time. God Bless.
So I'm Leaving To Swift

read the first post on this page for info on swift. Do lots of research on here and don't get involved thinking they are the best co out there. There are people on here that will talk trash about them all day long, but they are still in business so it can't be too horrendous to work for. Of course I'm not a driver, just an enthusiast...lol

Swift and Schneider are 2 of the biggest companies out there. They didn't become the biggest companies by treating their customers badly. Their customers are going to come first! However, big companies alot of times, do treat their drivers badly. You're going to have to sift through the BS and realize that alot of the bad said about them is brought on by the drivers themselves. Some of the other BS is brought on by the company. From my experiences (not necessarily with driving, but any big company) is that the company is there to make money, if that means screwing over a couple drivers, they will. They have so many applications coming in per week that they don't really care if the drivers who aren't making them money aren't happy. If you go there, run the loads they give you and don't complain, get them there on time, and don't keep worrying about getting home, you might be ok. If you're worried about hometime, you need to find a smaller company to work for. Starting out, you need to get experience or get lucky to find one of those companies. My opinion is this, Go there, do your job! Get your experience and see if they have treated you right at that point, if not get out and find another company to work for. Remember bigger companies have tons of drivers to choose from. The way the economy is, smaller companies have tons of drivers to choose from. It is what it is these days and you have to be prepared to be screwed over sometimes. Give it a shot and see what happens. Good Luck to you.

Hello, I was looking at going with swift and going through their school to get a CDL. Ive been in the military for the past 4 years and during that time I havent driven because Hawaii is such a small place you can take a bus or cab anywhere. Also during that time my drivers license expired in 2006 and I hav not renewed it. Would this hinder me from going through swift? I am trying to go as soon as possible. Thank you for any replies.

Thank-You for Your Service !!
No license may cause a problem I think. Be best to go get your license and then check, most will want 1 year with a license. -
Thanks for serving. When my husband and I applied, were accepted and then went through the Swift training we were told and witnessed that you must have a license for a minimum of one year prior to application.
I suggest calling and speaking to your recruiter concerning it and if a variance can be made. -
Florida has gotten so Fascist that you get caught driving on an expired license? Go directly to jail.

Hey Texas-Nana, the wife and I are looking into Swift right now, but all the bad press on this site has me wondering if I'm barking up the right tree. Can you give me a little inside scoop. Neither of us are in the business right now, but they looked like one of the only ways in without having experience.

We weren't in the business either. My husband is an ex cop who was working as a production manager. I was in ministry. We wanted something where we'd be together, not be able to take anyone else's kids to raise (we've raised a number of kids) a job where we could make some money and we wanted to be close to our daughter and grandchildren.
The answer for us turned out to be Swift. We did a large amount of research and yes we read all the bad press too. Look........there are people with absolutely legitimate reasons to not like Swift. There are also some without legitimate reasons and there are those that just like to fling dung.
Do your research. You're in Mesa so you'd be trained in Phoenix. The Phoenix school is still doing things the way it was done when I was trained last year. You won't be housed in a motel because you're less than 50 miles from the terminal. You'll get no monies for food. So if you get told you can have those things WRONG
I loved the academy. I still go by to visit. They were awesome to me and frankly I came out of ministry with my self esteem at a record low. They pumped confidence into me and encouraged me every step of the way. I love some of those people like family.
I was in great classes and adore some of the other students. I hope we're friends for life.
It was hard for me, I'm not at all mechanical. If not for the trainers, other students and certain people on this forum, my husband and my daughter I wouldn't have made it. But I did and I did well.
We went OTR on the 48 because frankly we're in this to make money. It was slow at first at the end of winter but picked up. I LOVED OTR. My husband didn't.
Then we got blessed. We got invited to join the wal-mart dedicated fleet in Casa Grande. I'm telling you........it's a blessing from a gracious God. I think the world of our terminal and fleet manager. He's strict, you do it his way.......and he's a good, supportive man. He takes care of his drivers. The trip planners and DMs are wonderful to us. My goodness they bend over backwards for us at times. The shop is great too. As a team we run between 5-6 k a week. It's steady and we get a 34 hr reset each week AT HOME. We also get a couple of nights at home most weeks. We love it.
Look......Swift isn't for everyone. Some people have been burned but they do right by us so we work our tails off and do right by Swift.
As for paying for the training: what many don't know is that as a married couple they'll train one of you for free.
We have no regrets about coming to Swift.jtswife826 Thanks this.
