So is CRE bad even if you don't sign as a O/O?

I hear so much negative stuff about CR England, but most of it seems to be geared towards those who have signed lease to own contracts. What if I go there and don't sign? Can I work for the company? Will I still get screwed?

CR England is in the business to train new drivers and lease trucks.
From what you can read from the hundreds of posts here and thousands elsewhere, you will be verbally promised one thing, but pressured to do another.
You may be promised almost anything you ask for: Solo company driver, Team driver, Lease Driver...whatever trips your wire.
They do a very poor vetting process, so upon arrival, many students are bounced back home due to problems that should have been handled ahead of time such as too many traffic violations, health restrictions not talked about (i.e. diabetes, hypertension).
You will be required to sign a contract the first day there if you are there for the CDL training. It's very one sided. You accept the debt regardless of whether you complete the course or obtain your license.
Their CDL course does not have endorsements they won't require, such as doubles/triples, hazmat, tanker. When you decide to move on to another company at a later date, these endorsements (or lack of) may limit you severely as to who will consider you. Private CDL courses, Community College courses contain those endorsements.
The student to instructor ratio is very poor.
If you complete the course and recieve your CDL, you will be pressured to sign a lease. If you refuse, you may be sent home or told there are no company driver positions available. (even tho you were promised this before you signed)
You will be pressured to team drive.
CRE is not in the business to train and hire solo company drivers. They are in the business to train and hire team drivers, lease drivers or just train you and send you home. They recieve a lot of money from the government for training you, but not employing you.
In other words, it doesn't matter what they promise you, they will force your hand to do what they want or you are sent packing. That means you find your own ticket home.
There are other companies out there that train and do a much better job. But keep in mind, virtually all training companies are just that: Training companies. At best they will train you how to be a good driver and equip you to be a desired asset to other trucking companies after a year or two.
What you need to consider is this: Why would you take a chance on a company that is infamous for stretching the truth, outright lying or constantly deceiving new hires?
If they don't have integrity, run the other way!

The only reason I asked is because I have a misdemeanor on my record, so I was thinking I may not get hired too easily. I guess I can't be choosy. But I definitely DON'T want a lease operator contract. Don't want to own anything, so I know CRE is not for me. Thanks, you have given me a lot of helpful info.

I'm trying not to "buy" into anything, that's why I'm on here trying to find out as much as I can about how I can get my foot in the door with a misdemeanor. I don't want to be some stupid rookie that everyone is going to say "I told you so" to later. Not gonna be that guy. But so far all you have told me is that I will never get a job in trucking. Period. Oh, and to work for my dad. I have said if all else fails, I will do that. But I'm still going to try. You are basically telling me not to waste my time trying. That's just not me, bub.

If that is what you got from my post, then I encourage you to go to England. You will be successful. You will beat the odds. You will be a big burley solo driver with CRE and make huge money. You will tell us all, "I told you so!"
    You will.
Now click the ruby slippers three times and repeat....
    There's no place like CRE

I read on their website once that if you choose not to sign a lease and instead choose to run as a second seat team driver the pay is $.12 a mile.

Sorry, Emulsified, I wasn't talking to you. I was talking to Rerun, who on another post was basically chewing me out, but now I learned he was right, and so are you.

I laughed out loud when I read your post about clicking my heels. That was good, dude.
