If I need to break it up I will but I thought I would ask all here. I have been driving for almost two years and this is what I observed.

People in cars are so much nicer than I thought. Many move over for me in three lanes when I put my blinker on to pass a slower truck. Especially Ohioans. Long live Michigan Wolverines but based on how you treat me on the roads I may change my team! My fellow Michigan drivers, your ########.

Truck drivers are a lot more assholish than I thought. I guess the community is a thing of the past.

    Some questions:

    1. To you owner operators, what happens when your late to a load or just ghost them? How do they hold drivers accountable? I am a company driver so I don't have a clue what happens, I just get yelled at and I shrug my shoulders.
    2. Everyone says not to get a hooker and they all have stories to tell. No problem, they don't sound like fun stories. I NEVER seen any evidence of prostitution. I am convinced everyone is just making these stories up.
    3. Bathrooms are almost as bad as the ones in China. Does anyone do their business in their trucks? #2 I mean.
    4. Does NO trucker ever brush his teeth?! On my first night there was a guy brushing his teeth next to me in his truck. So I do it everyday in or outside my truck. I never seen anyone do it again. I can't imagine your getting a shower every night....not based on how some of you, and me, smell....
    5. Why do trucks suddenly speed up when I am about to pass them? Multipole times. They go fast and then slow down, then fast and slow down. Its like its personal and they can't have me, just me, pass them. I figured all trucks had Cruise Control. Is this not the case or is it truckers just don't want to be passed?
    6. Those flatbed trucks with a Tonka toy truck strapped down on an empty trailer, you always make my day!
    7. Cars who slow down in front of you and brake check you. Or they are in the left lane next to a truck and trailer and realize they are about to miss their exit so they slam on their brakes. How many of these cars do you hit every year? What is the expectable limit?
    8. I got more, but I can only remember them when I am driving and don't have my computer around to ask...

Other than your comment "people in cars are so much nicer..." I recognize the same thing you mention in your comment. I would daily have "are you frickin' kidding me, WTF are you doing?" Moments multiple times per day, every day I drove. I wouldn't make that statement in public unless you are ready to go P in a cup.

I would not bring my toothbrush inside a truck stop on a dare. I brush my teeth in the truck where I know it's clean and have bottled water to use.

Trucks speeding up when you try to pass has been going on for years, but everybody had a CB back then and you ask if his parents ever got married. Today, nobody has a CB, and fewer people speak English. The vast number of new drivers bringing their awful, dangerous, phone-worshipping habits into the truck is some of the reason. However, the stupid adaptive cruise control contributes to the problem. It gives NO Indication when it matches the speed of a slower truck. Some drivers only notice their truck has slowed 3 mph when someone is passing. Those drivers are idiots and choose the mash on it with no regard for the consequences.

There are virtually no lot lizards in truck stops anywhere. I've been told that business uses phone apps. In the 1990s prostitution, drug sales & people begging for money was common almost everywhere. It's nice to not get a knock on the door from some scary looking lizard.

You can be as professional as you choose. You don't have to be as bad as anyone else, even if those others are few or many.

I have been off the OTR thing for ages and I can't comment on a lot of your questions but it use to be there were hookers everywhere in the truck stops. I remember almost any TA you went to, Petro, at Jubitz in Portland they use to keep motel rooms there. The rest area on Hwy 99 near Tulare, Ca they would just hop across the fwy from the south bound to north bound rest area. Very common and frustrating to get two or three knocks on your door while trying to sleep. Hopefully most of that is gone now.

It used to be common. They still do exist. Fortunately for you, you haven't had to park at any of the locations that sport prostitutes. You need to be thankful that you havent had to stay in the sleezy cities or sleezy side of town where they are.

There are lots of reasons for this:
    Some people are just aggravating.

Some drivers see that you are ever so slowly passing them and dont want the see-saw effect that comes with hills & valleys once you get in front of them. If you had enough speed to get around them & get away from them, you would. Since you're creeping by, you aint got it & its just gonna be a pain for him if you get in front of him. So, he wont let you by.

Sometimes trucks run basically the same speed & again, those hills and valleys cause that see-saw effect causing him to pull a head of you then drop back, then pull a head, etc. It really aint him anymore than its you.... cause he is wondering the same thing about you. Why does this guy try to pass when he knows he aint got enough speed to stay ahead of me & get on down the road.
Sometimes weight difference between the two truck makes this happen.

Some people say its the "drafting" effect that causes you to catch him & when you pull out to pass, you loose that draft, plus catching a head wind drops you back & causes him to pull a head.
I understand "drafting". I also very well understand that it is one of the causes at times. However, #2 wasn't drafting 10 miles back when he caught #1. He wasn't drafting one mile back when he caught #1.
#2 is "overall" faster than #1. Maybe not much... but some. He has to be or he wouldn't have caught #1 at anytime.
I know everyone doesn't agree with this but everyone has their own theory.
When someone has trouble passing me, I release my cruise for 3 or 4 seconds, that's enough time usually for me to drop back & him to get going. I have dropped back. I "resume" my cruise & by the time the computer recognizes that, makes a calculation, then starts to resume, then picks up that 1 or 2 MPH I lost, the truck is a head of me & he will eventually get on down the road. Why? Because he, "overall" is going faster than me. It may take him a hill or two but eventually, he'll be out of my way.
Otherwise, we're both tying up traffic & just aggravating each other. Let the man go. Stop your cruise for 3 or 4 seconds, then resume & most of the time he'll have enough gain that he'll be gone.
Everybody is so anxious to blame the other guy. Sometimes it aint always the other guy. Sometimes it takes both of you to work together & "just get it over with".

    #2 made up.
Don’t park at TA in Columbia SC. then
Used to there was a few that worked the truck stop, even in morning light.
About every 1.5-2 hours was something knocking at your door or sleeper.
You could even see a rinse off taking place at the fuel island when they had water hoses.
