"Who said I was spotting anyone? I was in the sleeper the whole time, I was just woken up by a loud crunch and him cussing. I don't dare falsify my logs, I'm looking forward to leasing my first truck in a month, and signing my life to the company."

You need to get a different trainer, if you haven't done so already.

He put you in a log violation by doing that, as well as interrupted your much needed rest.

And do you know how dangerous it is to say something like that on social media?
Companies have people dedicated to watch social media, and what their people are saying on it.

And if you don't think they can find out who you are here, think again.
This accident is reported - date, time, location, truck, driver(s)..., so they can simply cross reference a few things to find out who is posting.

I have no doubt my company knows who I am here because it is all too obvious by what I post.

Lepton1, driverdriver and tinytim Thank this.

So.... what do you log that as if you have no more time on duty and you're going straight back to sleep afterwards?

    tinytim Thanks this.

If I had to spot someone I will do it from the Front corner of that Tractor someone is backing into. That way I see all thine blind side and catch the traffic impatiently wanting to get by also.

I did notice recently with video trends that some trucks are equipped with smaller cameras. Perhaps it's time those are used to eliminate the need of spotting. Rear of trailer camera (Excellent for proving door security etc) and so forth. Basically no excuses are allowed anymore by anyone due to the availibilty of technology to prevent trouble and breaking your nuts after you scraped those of your fellow trucker.

At the same time they can begin to remember how trucks were built at one time and return to those days of steel where a little rub or nudge does no damage. This flimsy construct and easily damage is a slap and insult to America and everyone who loves Trucking. We should demand that such crappy products be restricted to containers imported from overseas, not built as Class 8 Vehicles easily destroyed by one trying to park next to same.

I'll get off my soap box now.

The go around regarding sleeper berth, 15 minutes on duty spotting etc is a interesting one. One of a mountain of possibilities never considered by dear Uncle Sam when writing and passing a ever increasingly onerously thicker stack of laws and regulations that continue to choke off our overly inflated payrolls...

You should go back and edit that log to show Off Duty and if you really want to protect yourself, show yourself On Duty. If nothing happened then I would have just kept it as Sleeper but as soon as there was an incident it becomes a major CYA event.
