JB Hunt still has flatbed but it's accout specific. Schneider I thought never did flatbed since they do tanker and I never saw them hauling flatbed before.

SNI had a large flatbet fleet back in the eighties, They bought IT(International Transport) a large respected flatbed carrier, I guess they don't learn from their mistakes.

Here are some other ways to understand the SNI job offer.

    1) SNI's specifically recruiting 'experienced drivers', not experienced flat rack drivers, and offers orientation/training. Does SNI think it'll attract drivers who want a good place to learn flats and securement and then move on? In that case, $$ aren't so all important.

    2) Another possibility is that SNI has looked at the specific local labor market and concluded it doesn't have to pay more to a 'new' orange flat rack driver in that market.

    3) SNI also isn't above posting a job that doesn't exist. I've definitely seen that.

    4) Maybe it's a 'feeler'. If a couple drivers sign up at 34 cents/mile, fine. If not, bump it up.

They've always had flatbed divisions scattered around. They've been running ads for the past year for specific dedicated accounts. Many people don't know CRST has tankers, but they do. CRST has a Club Car Division hauling golf carts 48 states & Canada; unload and deadhead back to the factory. TMC has a boat hauling division. Lots of odd stuff out there. I used to haul boats for about a year for another company; that's gravy money.

what I don't get, is if you're having such a tough time getting and keeping drivers, how does it make sense to start up another division and further dilute the available pool? I understand that most FB drivers won't do anything else, and same goes for tankers, vans, et al. But there will always be some crossover.

In mid 80's SNI Purchased International Transport, Inc. of Rochester, Minn., the largest flatbed and heavy-haul products company in the United States and then in 1988 BUILDERS TRANSPORT and LANDSTAR POOLE both of which had flatbed DIV's

Low wage outfits have done a real good job in murdering quite a few dry van lanes out there to the point to where the line hauls barely pays fuel costs. I guess none of these low wage carriers will be happy until they've obliterated all good paying lanes across all different types of freight, and O/O ICs have gone the way of the dinosaur.
