My last gig it depended on the plant we went to. Only had two places that had that rule. Current gig you can have all the whiskers you want.

At both of the chemical tank companies that I worked for, I was allowed to have a moustache that did not go past the edge of my lips, or to a point that you cannot wear a respirator and have it seal. There were only a few times that I needed to wear a respirator but with the stuff we were unloading I wouldn't have been without it. My #1 goals when running tank was that I was not going to get any of that stuff on me or in me.
Also, I have been to a few plants that, like @Dennixx said, will had you a cheap razor and point you to a washroom that if you are lucky, may have hot water.FreezingHot32, Numb, Just passing by and 1 other person Thank this. -
I haul acids, bleach, peroxide, etc. and my company lets you have facial hair if you want. I currently look like ZZ Top because it gets cold this time of year. I know the respirator doesn’t seal well, if I were to need it, but I’ll worry about that if and when the time comes. I am no longer in the military, and the UCMJ doesn’t apply to me anymore, so I tend not to shave.
You could be a Richard about it and claim that you can’t shave for religious purposes, and threaten to sue for discrimination...Crude Truckin', Speed_Drums, FreezingHot32 and 1 other person Thank this. -
When I was hauling milk we had to be clean shaven. Something they said about razor stubble and rashes and udder stuff .

Sometimes it’s a company policy. And also a insurance requirement.
I was at a refinery in Illinois once when they had a ruptured line, some really bad stuff leaked. You would not believe how fast everyone put on those full face respirators! My self included!
And did the seal test not once but constantly heading to the upwind safe area.Super-Trucker and kemosabi49 Thank this. -
Chemical tanking is dirty work. My clothes always got filthy from touching the outside of hoses and climbing on snowy/dirty ladders. Gotta keep your grooming looking fresh though. You never know when you might need a good respirator seal due to a plant emergency.
Super-Trucker and FreezingHot32 Thank this. -

Qc here based on unwritten company policy unless you require a full face mask you don't need to shave half of us have full face beards but I do carry a razor in the rare occasion... Has not happened even when I was hauling freon... A dispatcher asked me to shave and I told him to lead by example he left me alone
FreezingHot32 and RockinChair Thank this. -
