Saving money is not the same as making money.
This is what like to say to the work smarter types. These are the same types that take the $1 per mile loads because they think they are smart. No offense to anyone on this post. Just my feelings from talking to the KR following types.
SO .. Where is the money - most OO going UNDER

That is complete opposite of the way I always ran. I never considered trucking to keep the wheels turning.
I was never in a position that my truck had to run everyday, even when I was broke. My strategy was IF the wheels were turning, the truck is making money.
There was several times and my truck would sit a month, when rates were bad. with your way of thinking I would have had tohold out for 4,000 bucks a mile to crank her back up.
Now that she is paid for it has sat 6 months or more at a time, she don't move unless the money is right.
When I started trucking, many trucks had no air, apu's or aux air and heat had not been dreamed up yet, folks can take some pretty uncomfortable weather without idling if the need to.x1Heavy, LNCTrucking, tommymonza and 5 others Thank this. -
It ain't hard think about it when uber etc came out the cabbies started crying. They have high cost insurance permits etc. Uber guys dont we cant compete. Sometimes its simply the cost of doing business that hurts most. All these people went and brought trucks trailers etc. And now that we have capacity cut them dammed rates. You will live in them trucks more than ever. Stand up for yourselves dont be timid when asking for money.

As long as you have revenue then saving money is the same as making more money.
I do think there are areas to save. Maybe renegotiate your insurance, drive 65 vs 75, idle less, do more of your own work, bypass some toll roads, care more about where you fuel, quit factoring or get a line of credit instead, on and on.
I agree though the quickest way is to simply ask for more money. The guys that ride through this like a champ will be doing both.Last edited: Jul 29, 2019
