So why doesn't everyone drive fuel tankers?

One of them wrecked on Sunrise Highway, Long Is. N.Y.back in Dec 2013, The driver was burnt up and only lost a leg, he was lucky, the person he hit was not so lucky. A Harley Davidson dealership and stock gone along with like 5 houses and 6 or 8 cars, was 12000 gallons of fuel. Dangerous business ....

 

#### I drive by that Harley dealer sometimes. When did this happen?

I just saw it online. I guess I haven't been down there in a while or I haven't noticed. Or they rebuilt the dealership that quick.

 

A trainer at C.D.T. in West Babylon told me about it, he used to work for Is.Trans. New the driver, that's how i knew about the leg lost.

I thought about it, but odd hours and you make more doing night shift(local) a coworker I use to work with quit the 3rd week in, didn't like the hours. Some people are comfortable where they're now. There's that "what if" moment, you know, you fail or the company doesn't give you enough miles and were better off doing what they were doing before. Some people don't like change

 

I personally havent looked or seen any higher paying tanker jobs. Plus dragging a 200 pound hose and waiting a long time for it to discharge isn't that appealing. I know that it takes longer to brake as well.

 

Trucking is one of the most dangerous jobs in America. Driving a fuel tanker is even more dangerous than that. And not just accidents. There was an incident on the news here a while ago about somebody shooting at fuel tankers as they drove through a rural area with a rifle. Probably just a teenager, but add that to the list of a million of why alot of people don't want to drive what is basicly an 80 thousand pound liquid bomb down the highway.

 

The company I want to drive for, Chemical Tankers wants 2-3 years experience. Since being out 10 months and getting 2 warnings on my CSA I'm thinking to show them nd prove to then that was my first year of driving it happens. I'm probably going to put a good 2 and a half years in before applying.

not sure what else is around me but I'm pretty set on that if I can get in.
