Since we are on the subject... Funniest s### I've ever seen was when some lady called up our corporate office to complain about us parking on a side road behind a lumber store. Her reasoning? The trailers where blocking her morning view of the mountains.
The contact funneled its way all the way down to our home office and after our dispatcher got done laughing at her, he told her that it was a public space and we had every right to park there. A few weeks later I chatted with an ODFL guy, and I told him the story. Apparently one of his co-workers was confronted by the same person.
Sometimes a good job related laugh is a benefit on its own.
So ya wanna drive a day cab. (The beginners company guide to ltl)

Idaho, in the southeast part. Our service center is out of Pocatello... I do my deliveries in Idaho Falls, about 50 miles to the north.Cardfan89, road_runner and FlaSwampRat Thank this.

I break on a wide side street in a zoned industrial area. One of the Reddaway guys uses the same street. No one has ever complained to my knowledge. If we were ever forced to go somewhere else, there is a big truck stop about 2 blocks away that we could use as an alternative.road_runner and FlaSwampRat Thank this.

Oh nice. I am familiar with the area. We have a terminal in Poc. We have a "meet point" for linehaul outside of Shelley, just past Idaho Falls. It's the Love's truck stop off of the 113 exit I believe
I was actually about to quote your post and compliment how well of a write up you did. You basically nailed it. The only difference between you and I is that we had 5 drivers and 5 liftgates. So we all got one each day. Only 10% of my stops had docks. So plenty of stops where you have to drag stuff to the back. Now down here in SC, 90% is bumping docks. Most days I don't carry a pallet jack.Cardfan89, MACK E-6, snowlauncher and 1 other person Thank this. -
Do you miss living out there yet?
Cardfan89 and road_runner Thank this. -
@road_runner where were you domiciled before you moved down south?

You know, my wife just talked to her friend and Montana got some snow last night. I am down here in Lexington and it's still in the mid 90's.
I miss the mountains and being able to open carry. I have plans to move back some day if I can afford it. I will not work at Reddaway again if this happens. The work conditions and expectations where unreasonable. I should have left earlier. Seeing your coworker being replaced 26 times over 5 years should have been a hint.
It's a day and night difference at Holland. Do what you can't and bring back what you can't. Don't miss your pick ups though. -
I was in Three Forks Montana just outside of Bozeman. Beautiful area.snowlauncher and MACK E-6 Thank this.

SC isn’t an open carry state?
Well, you own property there now, right? So a concealed carry permit should be easy for you to get. -
It's pretty living in the Rockies. In 2018 I was able to score a night linehaul run from Pocatello to Butte. It was a straight shot up I-15 to the 90 jct at Butte. I was bumped off the run by a senior driver this year, but I'd go back in a heartbeat if the opportunity arose. You do have to put your big boy pants on in the winter months, and be prepared for blizzard conditions and icy conditions. Chaining up is likely some nights. Overall the $ was great and I liked it way more than peddling freight.
