So proud of some, others will catch up. We do something no one else can do. Don't shoot people, Don't put out fires. I bring the things you need to do it with tho. I am an American Trucker. Don't pull in front of me, I can't stop that fast. Seen two get married. Just can't wait on what Texting brings. Big Rig V 4 wheeler. I get sad, thats about it.

Does running at night put less wear and tear on your truck?

I would say another benefit is cooler road surfaces which in turn is better for the tires. I know if I run a 110 degree day the tires will 'feather' up a little bit from the heat. Run that night, they level/smooth out. A 105 psi tire might get up to 130 psi or more running on a really hot day. I believe running at night the same tire would not produce as high a pressure.
Running in 110 degree heat also heats up the roadway and your truck has to work extra hard to keep cool from the 150 degree pavement reflecting heat back up. So I would say yes, less wear and tear running at night with cooler temps. -
We who ride the moon lit night run a little harder. Less traffic, less problems. Tires run cooler. Kitty breathes better, fuel mileage goes up a tad. 5.0 knows were trying to feed a nation. Unless were really out of line, they pretty much leave us alone.

I just finished yesterday "short", with plenty of hours left on my 11, because I was approaching Denver midday. Rather than waste any of my 70 or 11 running road work at very slow speeds I elected to stop short of Denver at a truck stop, then get up at midnight to start my next run. Last night running through Denver and NE on the I-76 was smooth sailing through lots of roadwork sections, rarely had any traffic hassling me... but I did have one car with a driver that had serious ARS (Anal Remora Syndrome) that tagged along with me for about 60 miles... that was it. I ran full out the entire way except for obligated lower speed limits in the work zones. Had I tried running that during the daylight hours I'm sure I'd have spent at least an additional 30-180 minutes doing it.

If you want to get there safe, follow a Trucker. I have tag along most of my carrier. Women for the most part. They seem to know, 40 tons of truck ahead of them is a safe place to be. Men however I see passing me, I see in the ditch. 12 seconds they save, costs them much more.

Safe is not less than one second stopping distance behind a big rig. Ever see the images of cars that have rear ended a trailer, with the occupants of the front seat decapitated?

... then again the occupants of that car I saw were pretty much done being stupid...

I do a car length per 10 mph. More if I can. As a O/O I load to the limit. Don't like city driving. I think I will take out 5 cars for every second I can't stop. I have been lucky.
