I got a buddy that was killing it in the spot market when everything was good. Now he's running 3800 miles a week and even running illegal to make money.

Not just spot market… I was invited to bid on lanes. All 17 bids put together, I lost. Race to bottom on contract freight now.
Oxbow, PPLC, Rubber duck kw and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yep. And once again, why I stay off of long-term contract freight. I don't want to get locked into these rates. Just doesn't help anyone.

He was making big big money. Now it's like he's struggling badly to just make it.PPLC Thanks this.

I get asked to bid on loads a bunch.
Got one a while back, stayed on it a year and a half.
They then added a bid and they cut the rate almost in half.
Now the company that has it brokers the loads out.
There’s one going up there loading tomorrow for saturday delivery.
I quit hauling for them. -
Drowning? Pool?

Actually talked to him today and he's on vacation lol. I guess it isn't too bad. I thought the yellow bankruptcy was gonna flood the market and everyone would eat.Siinman Thanks this.

Everyone here misses the point. BROKERS are dictating the rate. Imagine if all carriers stuck together at the same time and agreed to no longer haul for brokers. (YES, there is a site that can accommodate the shippers posting directly). Most shippers have no clue how much of their transportation dollars are actually go to transportation. So, if shippers posted their own freight (Driven by trucks refusing brokers) then the full rate will be posted. End of story. Some will play the same game of starting low to see how little it will move for but at least it will move without all of the ridiculous clauses that brokers require. Still a win. Quick question: How many of you realize that most broker rate con sheets or agreements require that you accept full responsibility regardless of the limits of your insurance? I even found a couple of my own that state that we are responsible even if our insurance company denies the claim. This alone is far to dangerous a requirement for carriers to agree to just to get an under paying load.
The law does not require this so why do brokers force it? Because they can.
What do we have to loose by trying? Nothing but we have up to 10-50% to gain in a clean agreement that doesn't require your first born.
