I wish dry vans were much more difficult to operate. Perhaps they could make the swing doors heavier and harder to open. Only tough guys could haul dry vans. Maybe then the rates would be better. Ha Ha Ha!
Some numbers for new O/O

Reefers can haul most dry product just fine though. Not so much the other way around. The only real problem with trying to put dry van loads in reefers is if you have loads that need securement with lumber nailed into the floor, or loads that need straps rather than load locks.Scooter Jones Thanks this.

I pulled refer my first 3 years in this vocation, so I do have some experience with it. If I could only lock up contract freight hauling chocolate peanut butter ice cream at say $5.00 a mile, I'd buy a refer tomorrow.Coffey, Farmerbob1, Bean Jr. and 1 other person Thank this.

In the summer of 2018, I saw a load posted for $3500 on 500 miles. I thought to myself, there gotta be a catch. And there was. It was a load of ice cream posted in the dry van section by accidentFarmerbob1, Scooter Jones, TallJoe and 1 other person Thank this.

Some shippers would not load a reefer even though they could. Reefers mean a lot more BS to deal with that you don't have with a dry van but indeed even what Uber and the likes have had to offer lately for reefers was heavens better than dry vans. Grass looks greener there.Farmerbob1 Thanks this.

Dry shippers love to damage Reefer walls too it seems. Run it in at an angle till it hits the wall and smashed the next skid then go grab another. Smh

Well, the upside of being leased to a mega is that the rates tend to stay pretty stable. Granted, when the freight blows up like it did 18 months ago, the true O/O"s do much better. Some of it bleeds out to us, but not much.
That said, I prefer stability.Coffey, Farmerbob1, JonJon78 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Who gives a #### what company drivers think? Not having to be out for 3 weeks or more in a row is one of the reasons to go owner op and not be a company driver.Coffey and Farmerbob1 Thank this.

This is all too hard, and too depressing. I'm going to JBHUNT.
Coffey and spyder7723 Thank this.
