So I had my first day of school on Friday and I was sitting around looking at companies to apply for and he kept trying to push Werner on me. After telling him no I've looked at Werner and I don't like what I see a million times he finally stopped. I've found several other companies that hire from that school and have already got pre hires from the 4 i really liked. Now my question is does the school get extra money when they get a driver to hire on to one of the companies that sponsor their school?![]()
Something on my mind!

years ago, there was a "recruitment bonus" for the placement person/school but this has in "some areas" stopped. my school fro example, does NOT accept any fee or bonus for students going to a particular company.
if someone was "pushing you" into going with Werner, i would suspect they are under some sort of "quota" they have to meet, to get students at particular companies in a months time, and not necessarily a commission quota either. it could be a "quota system" to just keep the trucking company GOING to the school......this then allows the school to "boast" they have a "list of employers waiting for students".....and thusly, they can advertise "you can get a job quicker form us", in their advertisements.oknavy, wulfman75 and Texas-Nana Thank this. -
Think of recruiters as "used car salesman" They will tell you anything to get u to buy the car and make it all look pretty.

I was told by a friend that was a school recruiter and yes the schools get kickback from the mega-carriers. Now schools are privately owned so it may differ from school to school. You are a very smart guy though! Stay away from the mega-carriers! I am not bashing them but my main reason is due to the dispatchers. The dispatchers at the mega-carriers are responsible for hundreds of drivers. This makes you a number and if you have a problem or need something good luck, get in line. At the smaller companies you have a much better chance at making money due to a good personal relationship with your DM. This is very important. Probably doesn't make a whole lot of sense to you now but it will once you start rolling. Do your homework and find a good small to medium sized carrier that best fits your own personal needs. Aim for the carriers that aren't doing a lot of advertising. This means that their driver turnover rate is lower which in turn means that their drivers are happier working for them. Good luck to you!

######..........i got taken.....!!! -
When I was in school, the only one we got pushed to was Marten, and the only reason was the former Secretary for the school got tired of driving a desk, went through the classes and went to work for them. Whenever she was in Denver she would stop by and visit for a few hours, sometimes she would hang out in the lot and help drivers doing yard work learn the right way to do things.

Thanks for all the responses guys I apperciate it. The guy that keeps pushing werner on me drove for them back before they had paved roads lol. I just followed my own path and took the intiative to contact some companies I liked. I talked to Pride out of SLC and all i've heard about em is good things so hopefully all goes well there. I was just curious cuz they were talking about how werner would call and ask how many students they have and then say they'd take all of em. They act like some of us ain't smart enough to learn about em to know not to go to that company. Anyway I know at least one of the guys in my class is planning on going with them and I told him to get on here but since he's older then me he told me " your still a young buck what the hell would you know about the trucking industry". Oh well it's his career not mine.
