I live north of Gainesville, and we are under a tropical storm warning. This thing is suppose to ride the coast until the NC/SC line, hang a right, do a loop then most likely head west across southern FL next week, then into the Gulf where water temps are even warmer, so Matthew might be a 2 week storm. They say it will flirt with Cat 5 just before landfall.
Tampa should be ok for Friday because the worst of the weather for us, 150 miles north of Tampa, is Friday.

Traffic on westbound lanes of I-26 will not be able to exit until Exit 187 near Ridgeville. The exit to I-95 is closed to all I-26 traffic and I-95 traffic is not able to get onto I-26.
There will be "comfort stations" along the way and you will be able to access rest areas.
If you run out of gas, SCDOT says they will have extra SHEP trucks patrolling the interstate to provide some gas to get you moving again.
Officials will re-evaluate the lane reversal Friday morning.NavigatorWife Thanks this. -

I sure would not want to leave most of my worthwhile material belongings behind in a mostly deserted community given the world we live in today where "criminal types" live and mingle among us in huge numbers, waiting for any opportunity to "get to work" stealing the fruits of others.

As of early morning Friday, It looks like the short and mid-term track forecast is shifting eastward about 40-60 miles. This little shift will help considerably to reduce wind damage along coast lines as well as coastal and inland power-outages. Should also help to keep storm surge and regional flooding [in most areas] to a manageable level.
