I would be less worried about the heavy lifting, which is rare & more about the sitting all day everyday. Almost nobody I know that was a driver DOESN'T develop low back pain from all of the sitting. It's mostly atrophy of the muscles in low back & hips. It's a like if you've ever had a broken arm. Lots & lots of time not using your arm causes it to be weaker & stiffer until you can begin using it again. Well sitting is the thing you do all day every day.

Answer any questions truthfully but don't volunteer information. They'll probably ask if you're currently taking any medication. Say what you're taking and why, in as few words as possible.

Even if you get a "100% no-touch freight" company (spoiler; there will ALWAYS be an occasional hand load..), will you be able to:

    Pull 5th wheel pin levers?
    Deal with sticky trailer doors?
Climb up to and down from the tractor and/or trailer?
Put on and take off tire chains?
    Open a truck hood?
    Crank a trailer landing gear?
Withstand hundreds of miles of rough highway surfaces every day?

I'd advise against the idea. Damage your back when you are in East Podunk, and you'll be stuck in whatever hospital is nearby for days!

Two questions on the physical form that concern your situation:

Do you or have you ever had neck or back problems?

Have you ever spent the night in the hospital?

If you answer yes, there will be a place below to comment further.

A Bose Air Ride seat might help:
