No one can tell you what company will be best for you. Make a list on what you want and where you want to be in a year, five, and so on. Then at least you can start your research on companies. You can get a good idea from this site plus you'll know where to check on companies. It's your future so don't just follow the herd without knowing what to expect from a company. Just about every school will show the students that the only way is to go to a starter company. That's completely wrong. When you know what you want you go out and get it. Don't limit yourself to the internet. Use all the sources you can. That means banging on doors, calling, and then going on-line. I know if I was to start all over again I would want to know I used every tool at my disposal to find a job. It's just like anything else out there. You build on your experiences to move up so you'll get better pay and living conditions. Then if you planned it right when it comes time to retire you have a good income and easier life ahead. I see so many drivers retire then the next day their right back out there on a part-time job doing the same thing they've done for the past 20, to 30 years. It's sad.

 

Also look into TMC and PGT Trucking......(Flatbed companies that hire student drivers)

This is really GOOD advice! Thanks for posting! Im nearing grad from my CDL School now, Just awaiting the MD CDL test in March. I was also advised to talk to drivers at the truck stop down the road from my house...ask them for their advice!

I kind if figured you were on US 301 and the truck stop you're talking about is down by the river. I was stationed at the Tech Center Indian Head for my last duty station back in 1990. It's funny to remember there because I shut that bridge down completely to haul a specialized dozer over. We lived in La Plata where the tornado took a right turn. Luckily we had moved by then.

 

I heard about that La Plata tornado! They had a few last year including a mean looking twwin funnel..one hit Brandywine a few years ago..i STILL have hail damage to my car from it
