I was a dispatcher for a trucking company for 4 years where I was dispatching 7-10 trucks.

The company was sold off merged with another company and they laid us all off a few months ago.

I currently have a sprinter van and have a sub contract with a company delivering car parts.

I'm planning to buy a fleet of 4 heavy duty pick up trucks and some flatbeds and trailers... Hire some drivers and put them on the road, while I dispatch them loads etc.

I've been on Youtube trying to get some more information about hot shot trucking. Im choosing hot shot because it seems to be a bit easier than dispatching semi's.

    Any advice?

Trying to start a successful trucking company from scratch? Sure how hard could it be lol.

do you even have a DOT number and proper commercial insurance for the sprinter van? If not, you’ll need all that to run hotshot rigs.

from what I understand, finding loads for semi is easier than hotshot. Dispatching hotshot is more of a niche that has to be learned because of tighter weight and deck space limitations,

Make sure that none of your drivers speak English so you don’t stand out in the crowd

Unfortunately, what I have to say is going to come across as rude. That's not my intent.
You're asking proven leaders and owners for advice. You're asking people who are veterans in this industry, who have seen the good and bad, through the good and bad.... and most of all who have been there.

We see this at least every month. Someone wants to start a new business. They come here and ask for advice, then get mad and leave, because its not what they want to hear. You're asking for the people who know... to lie to you.... to tell you only the positive.

The people here have no gain or loss in your business. They have no gain in lying to you. This forum is here primarily to share their knowledge and help people who ask for advice.

I'll cut to the chase. There is no market for starting a new trucking business in todays market. I dont care how long you have been dispatching. I dont care what your knowledge is in dispatching. Dispatching, is dispatching.... it's not trucking. Its on the totally opposite end of the spectrum in this industry.
Final advice... heed the advice given to you here from the guys who have been there, done that. They (we) have decades of sweat in this industry from every angle... forget your dream. The market aint here and you have zero experience in managing an already failing industry.

I went to EMT school and run an ambulance for 6 years as a side job. I have experience in emergency medical. I have had a heart attack. I have had stents put in 4 times. I have watched the monitor while the Cardiologist placed the stents. I have watched endless Youtube videos on placing stents. That dont mean I can get a white coat and call myself a Cardiologist and set up practice.

And yes.... it is the same thing.
