Ok so I think I got this. Correct me if I'm wrong. Per diem miles the gov't adds money to your miles driven if your a certain amount of miles away from your house. Non per diem the gov't does not add any money to your cpm. Practical miles are determined by usually the dispatcher. And hhg miles are total miles driven even if your lost. Ok so saying that everything I typed is correct. I would not choose non per diem miles I would choose hhg miles.

Is there an advantage to any in of these besides per diem cause I made up my mind and I don't want nothing to do with per diem. I'm choosing (for the moment) hhg cause it seems to best suit me.

Nope all wrong. The government doesn't add any money to your paycheck, lol. That would be nice if they did. This is my understanding and interpretation of it:

Basically on per diem, the first .10 of your pay is not taxed. Practical miles are what they dispatch and pay you for, I believe is routed by Rand McNally. HHG is household movers guide. Basically miles between zip code of where you picked up to zip code of where you deliver.

Well again that is my understanding and interpretation of it. Don't take it as the gospel on it. They should be able to explain it better when you go to class.

Actually Sully has a post about HHG and practical miles..Here is the link for that: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...hat-dummy-would-switch-practical-mileage.html
He explains the difference plus his real world test of HHG verses Practical Miles.

Well, thought since I was down for a 34, I'd update here for a moment. I've been keeping a sheet on my milage and though I haven't added this past two months to it, I've kept about 10k miles per month avg since going solo. I'd like to add the last two months but at my subscriber's request I returned the micro-sd card with the tab for troubleshooting/repairs... and the sd card didn't make it back with the tab. So, I have the files backed-up on my dad's computer at home and had him send them to me) but without said sd card inserted the program I was using won't even launch. Too bad, cause I was really looking foward to passing the time today with useful things to do - I've rain-x'd then looking glass and swept the cab out and later I'm applying some fog-x the inside as well. Trying to hold off on laundry till I get near a terminal - saving is such a hassel sometimes.

On another note, met a new hire that just grauduated into his own rig 8442; welcome friend. We were loading in Courtland, AL the other day and he had a flat on the trl and an out CLR lamp, so I tailed him to the Chevron. County likes to patrol that road coming in a LOT. Helped him set-up with Premire Care. . they took the longest I've ever seen to get back with him, and then the road crew took the avg time for a remote location, so we passed the time with a few pointers and questions he had. The good thing was I'm still fresh into my own truck so it makes it a bit easier to recall the stumbling blocks I have/had coming onboard.

A bit anxious to see winter set in, not being from a snowy area - this should be intresting. I have a dash mounted vid cam now.. watching thoes pesky 4-wheelers that like to signal(or not) at the last moment befor they just about give you a heart attack. Don't know if I've mentioned it, but I've already restacked 1.5 pallets of beer for an inticipated stunt from just such an occasion. Fun.

I'll be checking out some other posts throughout today. Might make another one here.
