I'm back! I applied at Prime almost 2 years ago but since I had been out of a job for more then 6 months they said they couldn't hire me until I had better work history. Well, after working at a casino for a year and a half I put my application in at Prime. Angela Gomez was the lady I talked to and she said everything looked good and she should tell me tomorrow or the next day for a yay or nay, probably a yay. I just had a few questions...
They say after I do the CDL test I'll make 12 cpm or $600. How do I pick which one? Is it the lower one or the higher one or do I choose? Will they bus me out there? I live in Albuquerque NM... I'm going to do the CDL training with a good friend of my dad so that wont be to bad. When the orientation is done do I immediately go out? How long until I stop? I'm a bit of a tech guy and my phone fell out of my pocket on my motorcycle a few weeks ago so I wanna get a new shiny phone from Verizon but it comes out on Nov 10th when I'm at orientation... Will I have a chance to ever stop?
If I get my CDL permit before going to orientation will I need to take my birth certificate? My birth certificate says "Certification of birth abroad of a citizen of the united states of america". I was born in Okinawa Japan on a naval base... Angela said I needed a STATE issue birth certificate...
How are trucks set up stereo wise? Can I get a new stereo deck with a usb port or something? I listen to a lot of music off my phone because you cant get these cd's... Japanese/Korean/Russian... Internet? I figure since you can only drive 11 hours (I believe) a day, I'll get a laptop and play my WoW or talk to my friends and stuff... Ive been looking at those broadbands from verizon and sprint, the sprint one seems better. What do you guys think? What should I bring besides a notebook, pens, clothes, and a sleeping bag? And shower shoes, cant forget the shower shoes. I read there is a little store on facility that sells most things... Is it all marked up in price?
How do you get paid? My dads friend said something about a card truckers have... does it work like a debit card or will i have to have my real debit card and stuff as well?
Thank you all for taking your time to answer these questions. I hope I get the call tomorrow saying everything is OK. OH, how much can I expect to make my first year? I'm mostly picking this up because my current job is around $11,000 a year... I have no family except my dad and I don't have many friends as I'm kinda a loner...
Starting Nov 8th hopefully

Read all the Prime posts you can. Your questions are popular and answered. As for the birth certificate, an employer has to verify your right to work in this country, so you will need a certified birth certificate or a valid U.S. passport.

Welcome!! You dont get to choose the $600 or 12cpm. The 600 is the minimum you can make, while available for dispatch, a week. Anything over 5000 miles run that week is paid at 12cpm, which will be OVER $600 for the week.
You will stop at various locations while in PSD so you can get your break in, but when in TNT.... good luck lol We never stopped long.
TAKE YOUR CERTIFIED COPY OF YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE!!!!! THEY WILL SEND YOU HOME WITHOUT IT. DOT requires a copy of it for your license.
The trucks stereo is a Sirius equipped model, you just have to pay for the service. If you want internet, get it... I use my phone. Dont bring anymore than is absolutely needed! Space is tight with two people in the truck.
You can either have your pay put on your COMDATA card, or just put into your bank account. I believe the $200 advance they give you is put on the car. The card works kind of like a debit card.
How much you make depends on how much you run... Rund hard= make a lot of money. Camp out at truck stops/home= make no money. -

U.S. military installations are sovereign territory of the United States. While you may have dual citizenship you are 100 % American born. Be that as it may, your birth certificate from the Naval Hospital should be an original copy or at a minimum a certified copy with the raised seal or embossed, like a Notary Public stamp.
If I were you, I would call the closest U.S. Consulate office and have them send the rules (law) language about your U.S. citizenship. If nothing else, get the web address for the language and print the rules for the Prime Recruiter to read. -
I just wanted to make sure because she said I needed a STATE issued one... I'm still waiting on them to call me and tell me everything is go. I was told today by my current employer that they called him and he gave me a shining recommendation so that's good. Main question now is HOW do I get there... Do I have to pay my own bus ticket to MO? When driving with the instructor in the beginning do get paid for what me AND him drive or will it be mostly me driving while he just watches? Thanks all

Prime will pay for a bus ticket on the dirty dog. You DONT get paid a dime before you get your CDL, you get a $200 advance. You SHOULD be doing most of the driving.

You are not a Dual Citizen. You have a birth abroad which is just like a state issue Birth certificate. My daughter was born at the Naval Hospital In Yokosuka, Japan she is a US Citizen and we use her birth abroad maybe your recruiter is unfamiilar with the birth abroad

I was also born abroad in Germany, I have had so much problems with this I finaly just got a passport, and keep that current, and it is more widely excepted then my actual BC..my problem was the military DD form of birth does not have a seal, my german conformation of birth did, but,it is in german, so it became a royal pain in the #####.. I would bring both, and after showing the people the logic of my name being in english and it having the same dates, mother, father ect, they usually called there manager, who eventually excepted it.. now, with my passport, I show it, I'm done... so I am not sure about how prime will deal with this issue, but I worked for the airlines, and it was excepted for my 10yr background and employment checks for both FBI,TSA and Homeland.. so my advice, get a passport at some point..
Also, I lived in Okinawa on makiminato for 3 years, I take it you were born at camp Kewe... -
I know I'm not a dual citizen. I just wanted to make sure a certificate of birth abroad would work. From your guys' posts it will so I'm glad. I'll get a certified copy of it and take that one. Thanks guys. I'm so not looking forward to an 18 hour bus trip without my music because my phone broke......

Don't worry about the words used. Those of us with overseas experience understand. Remember that the recruiters deal with thousands of applicants and all but a very few, like you, are born in the U.S. Their mind says "state" when the legal requirement is, as Bruce said, born in the USA or have the legal right to work here. If you have a valid passport, a certified birth certificate is not needed--someone gave one to the State Department to get the passport.
