Wanted to ask you a few questions. I am currently sitting 30 miles south of Baghdad right now. I redeploy in July. I ETS soon after. Wanted to ask you a few questions as far as Roehl goes. I am considering the honor program also. You can't beat it honestly. Salary pay of roughly 1500 every 2 weeks, plus 1200 a month GI Bill.. (just for your info, they are talking about making revisions to the GI Bill. More money per month PLUS BAH.. ) Anyways, I wanted to get your input. To get full benefits you have to be full time. Home time plus* will only bank you 2/3 or 1/2 GI BILL.. (7/3 7/4...7/7..) Anyways, just curious on how this is goin for anyone on the honor program actually utilizing the GI BILL? Any input will be appreciated.. Thank you!

ic40oz, here are the details on the Honor Program, as written in the packet sent to me by Carrie Lindgren (the gal up in WI you'll speak to if you process an application).
[Quote from document Roehl Honor Program: A Rewarding Education]
"Your monthly payments are also based on a percentage of full-time school rates. The monthly payment you will receive for the first six months of your apprenticeship is 85 percent of full-time rates. The subsequent six months will be at 65 percent, after which the rate drops to 45 percent until you complete your apprenticeship or exhaust your benefit fund, whichever is sooner."
~*All information to follow is based on VA fiscal years 2006-2007*~

Hopefully this will put into perspective the kind of money you should recieve. If you go to Roehl Transport's webpage and download the benefits and compensation pdf file, it lists the current payscale for each fleet. It also lists the out of pocket cost for insurance.
I'll keep you posted on my own take on pay vs expense, once I get up to RDTC - (class starts 7:00 AM, 5 MAY 2008). I should receive GI Bill money during the class. I will not receive any base pay during this time.
Next post will probably be sometime Sunday night (once I get settled in my apartment up in Marshfield). -

Oh, the pressure on the day of your CDL state test.!!!!!!!!! Go first like I did and get it over with.. If you can get the tall dark haired guy not the shorter older gray hair guy for the test. Trust me he scores easier. Dont talk to them very much concentrate on your driving because they will distract you into making a mistake, which cost you points.
But the good thing is, in 5 years they have had no one not pass the state CDL test.!!! and thats a good test.. You will have a good time because all the trainers are real good people.
I finished evo I, and didnt go on to evo II, nor am I working for Roehl. But thats another story..
You will love the school though.! -
We have a drop yard in Jacksonville off I-295 near the I-10 interchange. We share it with several other companies, so it can be tough finding a place to park. Also, it's been my experience that we do indeed have quite a bit of freight coming out of Florida. The last two weeks has been nothing but Florida and Georgia, and I have not sat more than an hour waiting for a load. It is here. I see numerous Roehl drivers here too, up to six at one shipper. I am really enjoying my time with this company, they are letting me go flatbed this month once I get load securement training out of the way.

Don't hold your breath on seeing that GI money anytime soon. I applied in February and have yet to see a dime. I keep checking with VA, and every time the same answer; they are a couple months behind.
