Well, good news is I passed everything and I'm ready to go out with my trainer. Bad news is I have to take a 30 hour bus Greyhound ride to meet him.
Win some, lose some I guess.
Starting with Maverick at the end of the month.

Sitting here in a motel in Oklahoma, first week with a trainer down.
Trainer is a nice enough guy, though between his accent and his chewing tobacco I have a hard time understanding him. My only problem is that the guy has a zero radio policy, and let me tell you, driving for 5-6 hours in a day in mostly silence gets real boring real fast. According to my trainer this week has been a pretty sad week all told, only 1700ish miles (which I drove 90% of) and the loads where all complicated in one way or another. Definitely had a few moments where I was second guessing my choice, like when we spent over 2 hours securing and tarping a load of 9 slitted coils that took every chain and most of the straps we had, but my trainer says I'm doing good for my first week and I figure if this is what a bad week looks like it can really only get better from here.bigred81 Thanks this. -
During your first experiences driving a truck it's a good idea to have as few distractions as possible. Focus on driving well, that should be challenging enough. Many trainers will allow radio use only during the final week. 90% of the driving may seem high in the first week, but it might mean he has confidence in you. 2 hours to secure a complex load during the first week with a student is normal. Remember, he would have been in and out of there faster if he wasn't waiting on you. It sounds like you have a good trainer.
Ooops Thanks this. -
Still, driving in silence does get really, really boring -
Great, you'll be fine! Training is the toughest part. Soon you'll be in your own truck, which is quite a different experience after weeks of living with two in a truck.

Still at it.
Haven't had much time, been on the go a lot. Still with my trainer for what sounds like another week. Not really getting along with him, but hopefully it won't be long now till I'm headed back to Little Rock for my final exam and a set of keys of my own. -
That truck is a very small space for two people. Focus on the future and keep doing a good job! It'll be about over by the time you read this.
