Here is some numbers from my start up so far for insurance.
Pay 10 months at 1600 and 3300 start up. So basically your first and last month to start and 10 payments after. I am in Missouri with less than a year on CDL @ 42 Years old. Better call insurance companies and get an easy quick quote. I would be scared to death if getting my own authority with only 20K. If you are leasing with someone then maybe be ok. Don't forget the small stuff if you are starting out with nothing.
Chains, Straps, Printer, load board, tolls,ELD, and so on. Also remember it takes 4 weeks to get active so you better have an extra month worth of running expenses for truck and insurance.

Yes, I know 20K is the absolute bare minimum to get started with although a see a lot of guys starting with less. I just can't assume I'll be one of those lucky guys. By the time I actually get myself in gear I should be close to 25k. I really appreciate all the input. I would stay where I'm at and continue to save but it's hard to do when I haven't had a full week in 2 months......

If you can get a line of credit or some extra credit cards or something to help out would make life easier but Cash is King at the end of the day. Good luck on getting going.

I would lease on , depending on where he lives. You could make 50k after fuel and companies cut in 5 months. Then do it.

You really have to contact your insurance company.

Where you live has a lot to do with your rate.

Call Mitchell from integrity insurance. I have a reckless on my MVR and I'm a new start up and I'm only paying 18000 a year. Best I found. Plus I'm out of Chicago

Where you live plays a big factor, driving record and experience. I was paying around $12k first year

Lease on with a smaller carrier, way less headaches. I'm leased to a company with 6 trucks total. My insurance is $114 a week. I own the truck they own the trailer, trailer is pretty much mine I always pull same one. It's a rgn. They handle a lot of the paper work that I dont have to mess with or chase money down.

That sounds like a good idea. I'm finding the larger carriers that will take me often pay pretty crappy. If you don't mind, will you tell me what company you're with?
