Was south bound on 395 near Connell, WA (Just North of Pasco)
The hit activated every single warning light on my dashboard and killed power to the engine. Limped to the shoulder barely getting over the fog line. Called the state troopers to give them a heads up on my situation.. On the shoulder, in a slight uphill curve in the pouring rain.
Of course only 1 out of 10 trucks would move to the left lane…scariest part of the whole ordeal
Not liking the situation I was in, managed to get the engine started again but boy, it didn’t like being stated..ran roughly for a minute and didn’t really have a good throttle response.
Since I was still on the phone with the trooper and he was 1 hour out I let him know I was going to be limping down to Pasco if the truck was willing.
Luckily I still had lights and 4 ways and made it to Dobbs Peterbilt in Paseo.
Got the truck checked in immediately and techs were on it. Unfortunately it is giving them faults for just about everything so I’m guessing that it’s not going to be an inexpensive fix. Haven’t spotted any physical damage but high temp in the drive axle seems to be where the lightning exited. Initial thoughts are that it hit the trailer and went through the kingpin hitting the forward drive.
Just hanging out here waiting for a diagnosis before I check into a motel. Called my insurance company to start the claims process..
So that’s how my day started..fresh off a 34![]()
Struck by lightning this morning en route to a pickup.

Sounds like it'll be needing a module or 2. Definitely not a bad idea to have that diff removed and inspected, possibly both, along with ALL the wheel bearings. When that kind of current runs through bearings there is a high probability they can get arc damage.

That's just bad luck. As far as trucks not moving over. If your triangles were out, then I would expect them to move over. If they weren't, you can blame it on all the shoulder parkers nowadays. I just assume now if your triangles aren't out, you're just taking your break.

Found this picture on another thread. Now you can relate to both!
I was broke down on the shoulder the other week, and it was just down right creepy how some guys went roaring by without even trying to merge. Had my triangles out too…..

Until the new module is installed they won’t be able to tell what else is damaged. They did say the wheel sensors needed to be replaced.
Going to check into a motel for a couple days until Ihave a better understanding of how long it will be down.
Luckily the motel has a restaurant and bar and myboss doesn’t mind if I get intoxicatedHammer166, singlescrewshaker, Kyle G. and 14 others Thank this.
