My cousin drives for Conway TL. If I was going to pull a van I would definitely consider them. I pull flats for Roehl.

Not true at Knight, you must quit and reapply if you want to switch from dry to reefer or vice versa.

Not sure as my cousin likes to stay out 6-7 weeks at a stretch.

First, thanks to each and every one of you for commenting. So this is where I am at so far: I found out that the placement office at Toadmaster never sent off my apps to any truck companies so my attitude is $c#&w them I'm going to do it all myself. After all if you want something done right you better do it yourself.

Anyway, so today I applied to Werner, and Arnold, and Comcar. Yesterday I applied to Shafer, and CCC. I had applied to SNI online already and have been trying to get a hold of Knight about an app that I put in a while back. Knight has been thus far unreachable. SNI called me today to set up an interview, for tomorow. The Shafer recruiter said she'll try to expedite my paperwork to get me in the next available orientation and a Werner recruiter sent me an email telling me to call her so that she can "tell me what Werner has to offer me." (I think I heard that line right before i joined the military...and then my drill sergeant told me that my recruiter LIED to me lol but that's a different story for a different forum)

So far I'm holding out for SNI. I don't have a love affair with the color orange, or have any desire to be called a "pumpkin head" but from what I can tell they seem to treat their people pretty decent. On their job board is a regional dry van position and an OTR tanker position. I'll probably do the regional if given a choice.

If this is anything like the military I expect to get hosed in one way or another and I have already come to accept that. I'm just trying to find the least painful way to go about experiencing that while enjoying the my new career.

Knights doing you a favor by not returning your calls. You don't want anything to do with them. This will become more obvious if you spend a few minutes toodling around their forum here. I spent four years at Schneider and they did me just fine. Lots has changed with them over the years but I was home every other weekend for 3 days and I don't recall a single time in those years I was ever late in getting home. The miles were there for the 10 or 11 days I was out also. Used to be able to stick around the orange as long as you wanted but over the years their "training school" as been taken to the next level. Do your time and move on to a real company. Good luck in the job search.

7/7 at roehl, or any company really, would be ok if you have someone with a 2nd income. You're only gonna have the potential to make any money 14days a month. According to their website, for the 7/7 you'd have to run about 3000 miles each week that you work to hit what they say is the bottom of the range they list for that schedule. 78,000-81,000 miles. $31-35,000/year. Also means you share the truck so you have to pack and unpack all your crap every time you go out/go home.

But as I understand it, you'd be making about that much being out 2-3 weeks at a time, if not longer. Might not be such a bad trade-off after all.

Yeah, driving the pumpkin might not be so bad. If they don't have an OC out of Jacksonville, why would one of their job posting say that I have to be within 50 miles of there? I mean I live in the next county over so it's no problem but I am just curious.

And while we are talking about OCs what are they like? I hear they have gyms.

The postings that list radiuses of certain cities usually refer to a dedicated account. They have a drop yard located in Baldwin. The OC's have weight rooms in them. The OC's are pretty nice. Clean showers, ample parking and the 24/7 maintenance is nice. Whenever I would need a PM or service on my truck I would write it up in Dallas and go home or if I was on the road I would write it up late in the afternoon and go get a room. They would usually have it done overnight.
