I've only been driving commercially for six months. I was tagged with a loaner truck cause mine was down for maintenance. On my way back my loaner truck started overheating. I checked the fluids before hand, so I figured it was something mechanical inside. Honestly, I don't know crap about trucks. Finally coming up a steep hill, my truck completely shut down. I had enough forward momentum to pull over into the right shoulder. I finally fired her up again, and limped back the last 30 minutes.
I wrote it up on my DVIR and told my supervisor about it at the terminal. She was taken over to the mechanic the same day to get it looked at. $130 company-paid dollars later, the mechanic recommended that I should take off the winter front in the front to prevent my truck from overheating.
Needless to say, my terminal manager was pissed. Probably one of the most careless mistakes I made. Hope someone can learn from this.
Stupid rookie mistake

Hey...stuff happens. Fortunately, it wasn't any more than $130. Glad it worked out.
road_runner Thanks this. -
I'll add this....when I started back in the mid 90s, I didn't know squat about these trucks. Now, all these years later, I know squat....that is, enough to diagnose some problems and find a way to make it work. But I learned it all just by being out here. And I still don't know much...just enough to be dangerous with a wrench and a hammer!

Heh. If that's the worst mistake you ever make, you'll be far ahead of the game...

Hey guys, just a Question? Whats up with certain Drivers with a Shift Stick that's as high as the Drivers head? They want the general public to see that they can shift a truck?
-
Don't sweat it. It's a easy mistake to make and not even a bad one. You live and learn. Really didn't cost the company squat so they can get over it.

i can't figure that one out either.
kinda the same thing as having motorcycle handlebars above your head. hard for the blood to flow UP.
i like my shifter normal heioght. makes a great arm rest. -
I think its mainly for looks. If it got your attention its working. Lol
Most of those guys that have something like that (im one of them), take pride in their trucks and customize the insides of them. Chrome, tall shifters, neon lights, woodfloors, etc., i like waking up in the morning and seeing the inside of my truck ALL chromed out. Not only that but i love it when the chicks go all crazy over it and are amazed of the amount of work i put in it.fisher guy Thanks this.
