about a week ago I sat in a deabte with myself about getting two different size 9f snow shovels after getting stuck trying to hook up to a trailer with around 18 inches of a snow on ice surrounding it. tried one chain at a time. with all four outside drives with chains on I ended up digging a whole. needed a tow out then proceeded to follw that with 10 hr brl.

I ended up using a backpacking or military shovel to clear a 20 ft path. left my chains on, was able to hook up and deliver. there's gotta be a faster method.

Driver, you may have been better off renting a snowblower or calling up a snowplow dude with a Jeep mounted plow....on a similar snow subject I remember a few years back a guy with his bucket truck would clear your trailer roof off of the snow ..I was curious so asked him he said depending ...if you rushed him $45.00 and if you was nice to him and let him do his job $30.00...lol

I complained to the company, they did send out a plow after I was hooked up then it was about getting out of the way

    Don't we all, lol.

I only call it quits when it's snowing too heavily and I'm afraid I won't be able to keep it on the road.

I keep a backcountry snow shovel in my truck. It has an extendable handle with a strong plastic blade. You can find these at stores that sell ski equipment. I lucked out and got mine at an independent truck stop in North Dakota. The blade is about a foot wide, one and a half feet long, with 3" scoop sides at the back end. They are designed to move a lot of snow quickly, in avalanche search and rescue and for building igloos or digging a snow cave.

I have thought about adding a snow saw to cover the situation you were in. It has a two foot aluminum blade with large teeth. Cut blocks and use the shovel to pry them out. Best way to quickly get through that layer of ice.

Kitty litter can help get traction to get you started, if all you need to do is get moving so you can get out of a snow or ice covered parking lot and out onto bare and dry roadway.

@Lepton1 .. I keep hearing about kitty litter, I've not once used it, I don't see how it'll work but I guess I'll never really know unless I try it.. same goes for window washer fluid.

I keep mine in a bucket with a scoop. A few scoops under each drive tire and it gives just enough traction to start moving. Once in motion you can usually stay moving until you get to dry pavement.
