i havent read the whole thread, but if you're being asked to take over the lease....you're taking it over. If the Down payment has been paid....then thats it. if there is $1000 left on it? you pay it. But you take it over as is with the truck and as is with the lease. if he has things on there he wants to 'take off' or want you to pay him for.....tell him to p!ss off....

i'd honestly find a brand spankin' new PornStar.....

This like watching a train wreck. You know it's going to happen. You can't turn away!

Look, I haven't signed anything. I haven't even really agreed to anything. This all won't happen til the summer time anyway. When push comes to shove on this I will be reading the contract (the one he says I must sign to take over the lease on his truck) very carefully. I will offer alternative solutions like perhaps he can keep his truck and I will be the one to go get another truck of my choosing to bring into partnership. . I'm just trying to get ahead of the game and so is this guy who is getting remarried and trying to buy his first home.

Another big part of sharing this story with all of you is the entertainment value. I asked about the warranty and his very carefully worded answer was that the transmission was warranteed for 500k miles lol. He said the rest was expired at the 100k mark. Truck has 260k now. Get this little gem too-- needs 8 new drive tires and he suggested that since I will be signing for the truck in a few months I surely wouldn't mind pitching in for half the cost of the new tires-- afterall it would be the same as us having 2 trucks and pooling the maintenance accounts to take care of stuff like this-- we just have to 'pretend' we have 2 trucks in our fleet right now and it makes sense! lol

Reminds me of the time I went to my local Ford store and bought a brand new Ranger at 3.9% interest. About a week later they asked me to come in and bring my contract to show them because they thought there might be a typo on it. So I got there and gave her the contract and she grabbed it and spun around in her chair dropping it in the shredder while continuing to spin around the full 360 degrees and sliding a new contract in front of me at 16% interest. "3.9% was for the Escorts, not the Rangers", she said. I balked, "that's not my problem". She said "Give me your keys and walk home, or sign right here and drive home, it's only about $89+ a month difference anyway-- we extended the payments from 4 years to 5".

My Volvo with a Cummins doesn't use 1/2 a gallon between B services. It has 490K+ on it. This guys truck is a POS.

You don't go home for 2 months? Marriage is on the rocks? Sorry to here that. IMO being a company driver with helth is very important.

AFA the Ford dealer someone would have got a first class whoopin before I left there.

Are you making this stuff up?

You need to drop some applications and get a real job. Going local isn't always easy. I want to do that eventually.

If you think it is worth it save your marriage!

it is entertaining to tell us your marriage is on the rocks? okay....

but i wouldn't wait till summer to decide. Maybe by then the truck will blow up, and make the choice much easier for ya.

honestly, if trucking is the cause for your mariage issues....then maybe trucking isnt a healthy career for you to have??

Why do you need to do this fleet thing as a partnership with him? Why can't you do it on your own and make all the money instead of half of it? He thinks he has a sucker to make money off of. Don't be a sucker. I don't understand what you think is so great about this guy. He has shown nothing but irresponsibility and not one thing to respect. Use him to get the miles to qualify to lease a new truck and then drop him and don't answer when he calls you unless you want a good laugh about him complaining about how broke he is.

Why don't you just go and lease your own new, or nearly new truck, and leave this user and his POS truck alone. You can't be seriously be considering buying this guys tires are you?

This must all be a joke. The idea of leasing trucks and hiring drivers, when these people could just lease their own, or drive for the company, is ridiculous.

PS...This guys truck has been run hard, put up wet, a neglected, ready to blow up, POS. I can't believe anyone would even think of taking over the lease after what you have told us.

Listen to BK2. He's doing a lease right now, and knows what he's talking about. He's one of the few that can make it work. Listen and learn from those that know what they are takling about, not some dumbutt.
