DC, I am talking about idling overnight man. This could be a great opportunity for those who want to be home every night if that is even possible. KH
The few Walmart DC's I've been to have electrical outlets in front of every bobtail parking space. Not sure it would be the case down south as those are more for engine block heaters in the winter time. But if they had it down there a savvy driver could buy a cheap window air conditioner and fashion a plywood insert that would fit their window and support the air conditioner and run off free electrical provided by the DC for the driver's 10 hour breaks.
The guy with the broken A/C is a company driver for Swift. Dedicated and doesn't leave South Florida. As for Landstar my oldest trucking friend has been leased there since '04. We stocked drywall at Seacoast supply back in '81. Then pulled jetA and avgas in '84 together. He has a '96 Mack with an 18 speed 427HP with the biggest sleeper Mack built. He doesn't pull anything cheaper than $1.75 a mile. Some loads lately $2.73. He books his own loads. Wish I could figure out how to post a pic of his puppy dog. Just had it repainted, and his niece did the graphics, He also specializes in trucker taxes. He's the guy that does mine. BTW the rates you think that the Swifties will be getting is high. Company and L/O. Swift cut GW's throat bad! Just because you get that rate somewhere else? Doesn't mean you'll get it there. Grillin some pork chops to take with me to work for lunch. Dumpin gas in the ground 5 days a week. Bringing home almost $800. Sometimes go over 400mi. in a shift.
Overnighters, as far as I know, will be few and far between. I did see quite a bit of the Volvo single bunks heading out to these DCs, so I imagine there will be longer hauls for these guys so you may be correct on that. Are you saying that what I was said is incorrect? Unless I was told incorrectly directly, then I'm sure I'm right. I was told they were getting the same pay that another DC paid the company drivers that I was on.
My friend checked into it. $.30 a mile. I will ask today. Time to pack my lunch and go to work. I can ask and post as I get it on the phone in a day or 2 so to be accurate.
Rate being offered O/Os on the Swift website is the same as I am getting at this DC. I couldn't care less what the company guys are being offered. I did the math on 30cpm. It's up to the driver whether he or she will do well or not. Just like the OTR fleet. We picked up three DCs in Florida and one in Alabama. These are the facts.
Still have not found out why the DC in Grove City is a much lower pay scale for the O/O, and have to be out 3 weeks before home time. Not even a 34, and avg miles 2100/wk. I did send a msg to the Acct mgr, and never did get a reply.
Do you have a copy of that DC's O/O pay package? On the Swift owner operator online portal is a link to the Walmart pay package for O/O's. I imagine that is the same pay for all DC's country wide. RugTrucker your first post really made it sound like your friend is an owner operator for Greatwide. Then you say he's a Swift driver. I think I'm starting to understand, he's a Swift driver whose A/C is not working and cannot be fixed as the mechanics from his home terminal are dispatched to DOT Greatwide trucks elsewhere. There are other Swift terminals on the East coast he could take the truck for repairs.
