Yeah I rather the LE be proficient in something useful like say CQB!!!!
How many times have we heard of 3 LE and 3 or 4 perps emptying 2 magazines each of 9mm and HITTING NOTHING!!! NOT EVEN THE SUBURBAN????
If you are going to come to this country to work, LEARN HOW TO SPEAK THE LANGUAGE!
If I were going to say Germany to work I WOULD LEARN GERMAN!!!!
Can I get an AMEN!

The thing that I look at here, is if LE is REQUIRED to speak Spanish, then how long before they require all the other languages of the immigrants who have lived here. There is such a limit on the available dollars and time for training that they just have to have some priorities.

I have a friend who went to work for a French telecom straight out of college, it was conditional that within 120 days he had to start learning French and within 18 mos. he had to be proficient. When 18 mos. was up, he wasn't, not only did they fire him, but they took the cost of the return flight to the States out of his check. But they were nice enough to pay for the shipping of his personal belongings from his Co. paid for apt. to be returned to the states.NDBADLANDS Thanks this. -
As head of my HOA I hear this crap all the time. We have several spanish only households, they whine because everything we send out is in english. As the head of the Management company put it, he would have to hire people proficient in: Spanish, French, German, Russian, Portugeuse, Swahili, Chinese (all sub-dialects), polish, etc.. It's not happening. -

I can understand where you are coming from about law enforcement needing to learn spanish if it where legal for a non english speaking person to obtain a CDL in the united states. Taht being said it is still a requirement to read, speak and understand the english language. While in school we had a guy from south america that knew the words yes no and a few others. The school actually had to get another student to translate the law to him so they could spend him on his way home. As a dispatcher i have had many arab drivers come in and pick up loads and their english was good enough to at least communicate with them. This is an issue and it is going to only get worse and worse.
