I'm getting information from a fairly reliable source regarding the following:

The ranking "Star" system will be going away. All L/Os and O/Os will have Macro 30 Load Choice available to them.

There will be a pay raise. The 92cpm flat rate will be replaced with a scale rate, but I don't know if it will be load-mileage based like company drivers, experience based, performance based or a combination of factors. One would hope performance would be part of the equation.

E-logs are on their way. Currently, there are not enough of the new QCs for everybody. Word I have is the target date for all L/Os and O/Os to be paperless is August of 2012.

That's all I have for now. When I have more information, I will post it.

What I was told is they are going to start giving out performance bonuses for all drivers this quarter. Yes by August all lease operators will have the new qualcomm and be on E-Logs. They are not too bad I have been on them for almost two weeks.

Still ways to save you some time.

I ran e-logs for Prime. The difference is, Swift sets its loads up to be reasonably and legally run. Prime's Sales department didn't get the memo until after I left that the loads they were setting up were impossible under e-logs while slowing the fleet down by 7mph. It is more than possible to make 3K-plus miles on e-logs. I did it consistently with Prime. I just didn't get paid for it with the percentage and all the t-calls.

I'm irritated about this e-log business because it has not one single thing to do with safety. It's purely control. Nothing more. But, I'm not going to get in the middle of a flame war over it. It just is and I'll either deal with it or find something else to do.

Thanks Injun. I did hear when talking to Dan last Thursday in Phoenix about the E-logs for L/O by August of 2012. I am very curious about the possible new pay system. Also when they are going to take away the ranking system.

As far as E-logs, they are fine unless you are stuck running the hills and mtns of the east coast and all of the congestion. It will just eat away your hours, just like on paper.

You will really be lucky to be able to drive your full 11 on E-logs. I always have to start looking for a place to park as soon as it starts blinking red at me at 60 minutes left to drive.

Don't count on the place you are going to park to have spaces. You get close to your hours being up you better start looking ahead of time. I had to stop tonight because I did not want to take a chance at the TA in Indy not having any spaces left then I would have been screwed. So I parked when I had 45 minutes to drive at a Loves just to be safe.

Tomorrow is going to be interesting because I have to drive 600 miles and right up to my hours in order to make the Friday morning delivery. Gonna be close will see.

At least with the paper logs you can pull over several times during the 14 for 15 minute breaks but only really take 7.5 minutes. Every 8 times you do that, you gain an hour.

But I welcome the elogs. Stuff like this cheating will finally go away- blaming the driver for the planners' poor distance planning (time to distance) will finally go away. Expected to go 826 QC miles when in reality it is 905 miles in 15 hours delivery schedule out in country bumpkin 2 lane highways with 25 MPH steep mountains and 25 MPH hick towns to roll through will go away.

The whole industry will change due to these elogs. You're going to see masses of late loads and someone is gonna say 'gee whiz those drivers were really making it happen before with paper logs, and we were unjustly blaming them all that time'.

I also welcome the mac 30 as I have not been able to use it due to service failures on my record. I wouldn't have them but I was a little eager beaver out there starving for miles knowing I'd be paid whether it was late or not. I'd rather have a slap on the wrist than have to tell my wife and son there is no money coming home this week because I turned down a load that lands on Wednesday so I could slam dunk another load that lands on Thursday and cannot tcall for pay this current week.
