    How much, watt wise, of an inverter does one need to run a box fan, laptop, cpap machine (not all at once BTW)? I don't know jack about inverters!

    All of that would be fine with a 300-400 watt which cost between $50 and $75.

    Hey Frank, thanks for the info. If the engine is turned off, how long can you run a fan without killing the batteries? I am going to try being a good little company tool and keep the idling under control but I refuse to swelter in the deep south during my 10 in the sleeper.

    Also, Amazon has inverters made by Cobra that are cheaper than you listed. 400w $30, 800w $50. Are Cobra's junk or are all inverters created equally?

    I've got the Cobra 400 watt cigarette plug in inverter. Been running it almost 24 hours a day for 2 solid years.The one I had before that was a Coleman that went into service in 2006 and started making strange noises and showing the red shutdown light a couple years ago. I found that just plugging it in and having it turned off, I can still power my CB in the personal car by hooking up the CB to the power terminals, so I have not thrown it away.

    The Cobra has 2 household type plugs and 1 5v USB port. This is handy for charging cell phones, mifi card, camera, bluetoof, etc.

    I have all kinds of other stuff that I use the inverter for. Fans, laptop, rechargeable battery charger,DVD player etc. Highly recommend getting a rechargeable battery charger, I have the 'D' cell flashlight, never have to buy D batteries again, just recharge them once in a while. Double AA's for remotes and walk-around hand-held CB (takes 9 AA's) and triple AAA's for little itty bitty flashlight and remotes. Will recharge C's and 9volt batteries as well.

    For the big tasks, I have a 2000 watt generator for cooking with the crock pot, brewing a pot of coffee vacuuming or running my air conditioner.

    What do you have? A window mount AC or one of those self contained swamp coolers? I'm guessing with all the stuff you have in the truck you don't train

    It is just one of those portable air conditioners you see in home depot or sears etc. They sit on the floor and have a dryer vent type hose that vents out the hot air to a window. Mine sits on the passenger seat all the time so, yes I am solo driver, do have a princess dog though....

    Even with the Webasto heater going I used to have to restart the truck in 5hrs. I would set my timer in the sleeper (Volvo) for 25 minutes wake up and shut the truck off. Most of the time the low voltage alarm would wake me up.

    I have one of those yellow 300w I have had for over 2 years. It sees daily service even in a day cab. The 400 Cobra is good too.

    They do make 12V C-paps. When I was testing out in Memphis the tester guy said Swift would install your hard wire inverter for your C-pap. (get one big enough for a microwave!) And also told us Swift would have to tough out your idle!

    You can refer them to 392.2 or .4 of the motor carrier manual if the bi tch about your idle.

    Security is a thing to think about in a truck stop.

    i think it would be better if u guys gave a breakdown on your weekly expenses. then most of the questions would be answered
    truck payment = xxxxxx
    fuel = xxxxxx
    miles for the week = xxxxxx
