I was just re-reading this thread and this brought me to a question. Would Swift mind if we strapped a generator on the catwalk and used that to power some sort of AC unit for the cab? It would cut back on the idling. Or is this something that if they saw, they'd get all butt hurt about like they do with inverters?

To my knowledge I don't think you are allowed to have anything on the catwalk. If you had a small enough generator that you could stow it properly, then it might be workable.

I keep my generator on the floor in front of the passenger seat. In use, I put it on the catwalk and use a bicycle cable to lock it. Run an extension cord out the window to power up the portable air conditioner. I can't imagine Swift would have a problem with it,.. just a problem for you as you have that much more gear to lug around when it comes time to turn your truck in every 2 weeks when you go on hometime.

I met a Swift driver who kept a 2000W Honda inverter generator in the spare tire on his catwalk. He said it had been there for over two years, and nobody had ever said anything about it.

    Yes, it was locked...

back when I helped move the barnum circus one of the lead drivers kept a gen on his cat walk to run his cooking stuff and coffee pot. You will still use a couple gallons of gas during your break but at your own cost.
I thought about getting one before but havent decided to invest in one or not. If I did it would be for an AC and a microwave and stuff.

    They are seriously quiet.

I have a Honda 1000W inverter generator that I use on occasion. I bought a small Foreman grill (760W) that the generator will power. I was heating the Foreman when I went into my sleeper to get a plate. I thought the generator had stalled; I couldn't hear it even when listening for it. (No idling trucks nearby, either.) Stepped out of the cab and could hear it again.

And the generator (Honda EU1000i) fits in the side box of my '13 Volvo.

Harbor Freight Tools carries an 800 watt generator for $89 bucks. It runs on mixed oil and gas though and probably as loud as a chainsaw.
