Never talked with and USA drivers. Only one thing a Swift truck at 62mph can pass. USA Truck!

PAM drivers I had talked to were happy. Right now everyone has lots of freight!

Just don't go to driver solutions as it is $3000+ and you are beholding to the company that hires you for 1 or more years.

Swift has their own school, get your CDL before you go to a comapny!

    And read my sig line!

One thing great about Swift is lots of drop and hook. Not much time between loads. They are the biggest trucking company in the world. Will I stay here forever? Doubt it.

Hello, I have really been thinking about Swift also.

Did you get your CDL through Swift? Did you have to have your permit when you went to the school? How does all that work? I can go get my WV Permit here no problem. Full blown CDL do you get at swift then transfer back to your home state? Or do you have to go home to take the CDL test?

been with swift for 2 yrs....and they never have tried to push me into a lease. its been me who has been pestering them about details of leasing trucks, etc., but their "deal" just isnt any good. But never have they tried to 'shove' a lease up my butt.

Maybe you have a friend or two who drives for them, and THEIR driver-managers have asked them to lease, but that don't mean the whole company does it.

that is like saying all swift drivers SUCK, because you just happen to have seen 2-3 really bad ones backing up in a truck stop over the last week.

Not quite aafter they downsized a year+ back...went back to the #3 spot behind Schneider and JB Hunt, in truck count, trailer count, and driver total count.

but i bet they still pull the same amout of freight, if not more than either one. if not, its still fairly even. Truck count dont mean anything. Like the JB Hunt recruiter telling me "you'll make .42cpm if you switch and drive for us". Then when i asked him how many miles i'd see a week, and if i could get more than the 2600 i average a week at swift, he said no. That i'd average about 2k. So why would i switch, just to say i got paid more, and lose some pay.

I've come to the conclusion it's next to impossible to get a specific and accurate count of any company's fleets.

I'm happy at Swift others are not. We're blessed, we've got a great fleet and a great fleet manager. I wish everyone could work for this man. However, I've had two friends join the fleet and leave because it wasn't for them. So go figure!

    Hello all,
    1st post (be kind)

Im also considering Swift as a school to learn truck driving and look forward to driving for them. I've read all the bad things about swift and actually called my recruiter to delay schooling till I can make a more informative decision. Stevens trucking, con-way, schnieder are also in the running. Heres my question: Yes I can study for and go down and get my CDL. But looking at the job market for CDL drivers, no matter what type of driving you want to do, you pretty much have to have at least 1 year experience. What other choices are there?

Welcome to the forum Crazyhorse. Actually, you might do a search as I think there are a number of threads that discuss options to Company Schools.

I wish you blessings in your future career!

    Again...*choke, choke, gasp...chest tightening...left arm/shoulder going numb, tingling*....Nana is right!

There are so many variables to figure in, and to get the accurate "head count" on personnel, truck numbers, trailer numbers, freight volume....countless other points to figure into the equations.

The bottom line is, from a drivers standpoint...if you are happy (most of the time) and are satisfied with what you are doing, what you are being paid, if the miles have you in a comfort zone, if you are being treated right/fairly....what difference is it to anyone else besides you, what the name on the side of the truck/trailer is.

So many drivers bounce from company to company, just to return to the first or second company they drove for...because it fit their "style"! Some prefer to drive 3300 miles each week, some would rather do 2300 and have more time to sit and "visit" at friends, family, or truck stops with other truckers. Each of us have to find our own "niche" and accept the fact that the grass isn't always greener in another pasture. Find your grass, trim your hedges, and watch your own flowers grow...but respect others choices in what pasture they prefer.:biggrin_25514:
