Really, because every issue of RoadKing they spotlight a random TA and their all individually owned because they usually mention something about the owner of that particular location.

T/A and the now extinct 76 pioneered truck stops were state-of-the art and considered up-scale by most. In the (their) day, they were a sight to behold to truckers. All pioneers die sooner or later and in their latter days, they struggle. But the thing is, many of their locations are exclusive to them and if they board the windows, they will also board the parking lot. Better a crappy experience then no experience at all.

Truckers moan and gripe about the new generation of Loves and the Pilots, they moan and gripe about the older truck stops who are trying to survive and compete in a rapidly changing business. I guess truckers are going to b i ch and gripe no matter what investors and risk takers put in front of them.

I'd rather stop at a TA/Petro long before any love's, Road Ranger, Pilot/J any day of the week.

Got to remember too. You have just purchased $200 worth of fuel. (every time I get 50-51 gallons it comes to like $212) That $13 shower credit comes out of that fuel purchase as well.

Most companies pay cost plus for fuel, meaning the Truckstop charges what it costs them to get the fuel into your tank, plus .03-.04 cents per gallon. On 100 gallons that's $3-4 bucks in profit. WHHEEEEEE. That's big money right there!

dunno, i typically avoid t/a - petro unless no other choice. then again pilot/J have some real winners as well. ie: the wonderful, world famous Detroiter. everytime i've taken a shower there i felt nastier than when i went in.

there are truckstops I do avoid. All labels. TA/Petro included. Some chains I just avoid completely.

I prefer Pilots, but my company buys fuel via T/A-Petro, so that's what I've got.

Some aren't too bad but could be better.

If there's anything I'd recommend the truckstop companies do first it's hire more cashiers and send them to charm school!

I'm sorry if I'm surly after working all day, but could I just ring up my coffee and get a fuel receipt without waiting for one guy to send a fax, another guy to fix his fuel card, and then have a cashier with an attitude?

The economy is bad, pick up some more people.
