I'm on a load now that doesn't deliver (live unload) until approx 26 hrs after I can be in the receiver's vicinity. We have a terminal w/i 40 miles of the receiver. My DM hasn't gotten back to me with an answer. Can I just waltz up to the t-call window and t-call the load?

I accepted the load and will carry it through to the final if that is my only option. I just hate the idea off sitting when I know there's freight that needs moved. It seems counterproductive for me and my truck to just sit and do nothing.

Does company policy say that you cannot call the customer for early delivery time?

If you can deliver early, than you in like flyn, with another load.

I'll call the customer if I don't get good info or no info back from my DM. The BOL states that the customer wants 48 hr lead time once the load is picked up to make a firm appt. That wasn't on the pre-plan, of course. If it was, no driver would accept loads to this customer. You don't find out until you're loaded that that stipulation is part of the deal. If all else fails, I think I'll just show up as soon as I can. Might get turned away, might get unloaded.

I believe it (the tcall) will have to be coordinated between DM and planners. Generally they like to tcall them (I've noticed) within 500 or 1000 miles away from the final when there is that much time.
My guess, they don't like to tcall them that close (40 miles) because it is very difficult to get a driver to accept that short of a run.

I had one preplan where at the bottom it said pick up in PA somewhere, tcall in Richmond Va (final in NC). But the dispatch made no mention of tcall, I asked over the QC for confirmation, of course the standard No Reply. So I took it to Richmond terminal and was told it was not set up for a tcall. I balked (because I had gone about 200 miles out of my way to get it there) but the guy said take it because there is no other freight.

Phone the DM with a "hey you never answered me about a t-call". Of course when I'm in a bad mood it's more like: "Hey Bonehead....."
