How do I operate traction control on one of these trucks? I know there's traction control button and a separate interlock axle switch. I haven't been able to find any info as to how/when to use it correctly.

The interlock is your power divider, nothing to do with the traction control system. It locks out the interaxle differential.

I don't know what year truck or ABS system you have, but if you have a traction button it is most likely a button to disable it, some have an off-road switch as well. The traction control comes on automatically unless it's disabled. When it senses a wheel spinning, it applies brakes to that wheel to get power the the other side that has more traction. It also derates power.
