The $1.5 Billion is gross revenue after cost of goods sold, not net profit. In 2016 TA/Petro LOST $1.9 million. They have a .1 operating margin. Getting into the truck stop business is not going to make you the big bucks, even as a major player.

they should do it like the old days. when you got 50 gal. of fuel you got a free shower. you gave them a $10.00 deposit an they gave you a towel and a key to the shower. when you bring the towel and key back you got your $10.00 back.

TA knows exactly who you are. You swipe your frequent fueler card to get into the box. The attendant counts the towels when they go in to clean after you. Missing towel? You get contacted or charged. No different than a Motel 6 or the Ritz Carlton in NYC.
I think you still get points for spending the $'s. You might have to convert the points into the cost of a shower. I dunno. I don't trust TA for any maintenance.

Actually TA petros points are a joke compared to loves but after figuring that loves wastes about 16 hours a month of my time waiting for fuel and showers I've started buying most of my fuel from TA/PETRO ....not to mention a decent meal too.

i thought i heard that the towels are only put into a drier, and not washed. even if that was just a rumor, i had been taking my own towels as well, much more thicker and absorbent than any truck stop crap, literally.

I guess I am immune from what ever diseases are being transmitted through the linen at a truck stop. 40+ years still here....

It's more likely some suit and tie beancounter type fresh out of Polytechnic saw that TA raised shower prices to $15 bucks and decided that is too much of a benefit give back when a driver brings work into their proprietary shops. Nevermind the shower only costs $5 bucks, the beancounter believes it costs $15 and is unwilling to give that back to the driver.
