My words were... if they can't float the gears then they need to have a restriction on their CDL..
    I didn't say they don't belong in a truck
I'am also not going to be the one that derails this thread about what is or isn't the correct way to shift a manual transmission.. thats a complete different subject that you & I obviously completely disagree about
This thread is about resting your foot on the clutch pedal because your lazy

Fair enough, and That is lazy or ignorant. Maybe she was never taught that. I've seen alot do it. Company drivers and had to explain to them.

Now this we agree on ..lol
I understand what you were talking about in your pervious posts I'am not saying you thoughts are in correct .. its just I've seen to many people think they know how to double clutch .. when they really don't .. its becoming a lost art I'am afraid .. I commend you for teaching someone to do it correctly ..

I've been doing this almost 30 years and I have NEVER double clutched anything. I learned to drive in an R-model Mack with a Maxidyne 5 speed. The ONLY way to shift those is floating. You can double clutch all day long but if you don't get the timing down, they don't mesh. Last truck I owned had over 800k on the original clutch and transmission and it still had plenty of adjustment left. The mechanic I worked with when I was learning said that using the clutch other than starting and stopping increases wear, every time you disengage and re-engage the clutch to shift it slips a little because of the slight difference in the rotation of the engine and input shaft. Learning to float eliminates that clutch coming off the flywheel and once you learn to time your shifts, it falls right in gear. Hell, even my son learned to float his 5 speed in his first gas powered vehicle...it isn't that tough.

Your mechanic is 100% wrong. I'll have to explain later. Busy right now.

I was taught to do both but I learned on a 5&4. I was taught that a good driver can do either one and knows when each is called for or will have the best results. I was also taught when shifting with the jake was called for.

I use my left foot to brake every vehicle. In the truck you can be downshifting and braking at the same time. Gets u slowed down much faster when ur on the break with left foot and dropping gears with the right hand and foot.
