This is an absolute clinic on a prospective O/O who can't stop thinking like a company driver. $1.30 a mile? All miles? 3000+ a week? I don't care if they loaded me with motorcycle doors, I wouldn't work my truck for that. Sweet Jesus riding a Shetland pony how in blazes are you going to survive your first mechanical meltdown...and it will happen...with .15cpm in an escrow fund?
Ok, now that I've got that out of my system let's see if I can come up with something helpful...
Nope. Not at $1.30 a mile. You will go broke. Period.
Load on me right now is going 1485 miles and will gross me $5300 for two and a half days work. Backhaul is 1290 that pays $4150. Deadhead is under 7% and that includes the ride back home. $9450 for under five days work. Yes, it is flatbed work, and we get paid more, but there's a fellow talking to you in this thread that is making fantastic money in a lane everyone says you can't make money in pulling a dry van who makes my numbers seem pretty pathetic. Why? One thing that immediately pops into mind is if anyone offered him $1.30 all they'd hear would be hysterical laughter and a click.
But suppose I'm as wrong as possible and you pay off this truck. What do you have then. A wore slap out, fleet spec emissions truck with absolutely no resale or trade value. All your hard work and sacrifice will amount to what?
Ok, rant over.
Taking the plunge. My journey as an O/O.

Some times folks just got to learn the hard way. The guy has made up his mind and convinced this is the way for him to go. Nothing any of us can say, or numbers we can show him, will open his eyes. The only thing we can do is wish him good fortune.joseph1853, Mooseontheloose, fordconvert and 4 others Thank this.

I suppose you're right, but it still boggles my mind.joseph1853 Thanks this.

Unfortunately, because of this kind of people , mega trucking companies get stronger. And unfortunately , this kind of people will end up bidding loads for almost nothing and this kind of people will screwed it up for every body else in this industry.

You couldn’t pay me enough to do 3,000 miles a week.....:-/
joseph1853, starmac, DieselDrivinDaddy and 2 others Thank this. -
Farmerbob and mega companies have absolutely nothing to do with your failures. If it makes you feel better than by all means......Broke Down 69 and spyder7723 Thank this.

Well you could pay me enough but it won't be cheap. The last time i ran 3k+ miles i did more than 12k to the truck. 3k at under 2 a mile? I'm to old for that nonsense.
Don't give it any thought. We can't control what others do, can only offer suggestions. -
If nothing else, reading this thread has been a real education for me — been looking at trucks and working up a scheme for a while.
Mooseontheloose Thanks this. -
Almost every thread ends up with " I'm pulling for $3pm and I dont haul anything less than 5,000 lbs " Or "I only run my truck 3 months out of the year than I vacation in Maui , your gonna go broke " . Do what works for you , if you belly up lesson learned. I would not run for 1.30 but hey every situation is different. Good luck
Mooseontheloose and Rideandrepair Thank this.
