You should read the thread from the beginning.

He's almost made it 2 years so far.

A few one truck guys have been doing this around me.... they barely change the oil and don’t get extended warranty. Because they know in 3-4 years max they are going to dump the truck.....

it is a viable strategy- minus the deferred maintenance - between the tax benefits and the up time.

I know for what I do- the up time is most critical and far out weighs any cost difference.

I’ve always taken old things and repaired them. I’ve usually gotten some sort of accomplishment or payoff for doing so. One thing I’ve noticed, is a lot of Proffesional educated people, buy everything new, including houses, never update them, maybe sell at a slight discount.Buy or Build another new one. Maybe a repair if needed. But nothing extra. All in all, they come out ahead, in the long run.

I applaud anyone that can work on their own equipment and has the desire to do so. Guys like @Superhauler or @OLDSKOOLERnWV can take parts and turn them into trucks, I on the other hand can only take trucks and turn them into parts.

I have neither the skill or tools or the desire to do so.

I am just trying to give the OP an alternative that could work better financially for him in the long run. Since the guy runs for a flat rate he can never make up for down time by generating more revenue in a shorter time.

Another reason I believe in New only for me only because I don't know what another trucker who owned the truck before me kept that used truck. This is Major issue to much overlook.

    To me.

My issue is most trucks aren't taken care of.
Seems like more slackers own then people that actually take care of their stuff.

Then there's animals. I don't want the hair. Or the destruction. Or the pee or sh stains.

I totally agree, the way to make it, for Farmer bob, is to minimize downtime. I’ve always said, he could make it, when others said he was doomed. The key is to stay busy. The works available, mostly drop and hook. In his case, getting it fixed quickly, is important. I’d like to see him start fixing small issues, while he’s working. Saving downtime, and a few bucks to help cover the next time consuming, expensive issue. There’s always another issue around the corner, with a Truck.
