Tractor Supply had freon on sale last month for 36$ a case. I bought 2 since my van needs a new Schrader valve and semi isn't blowing cold ..
Ive had gauges and vacuum pump along with a Hanes A\c technical manual for years.
Taking the plunge. My journey as an O/O.

Is that an ECM setting? Will the shop cover the charges if you stop and get it turned back on?Rideandrepair and Farmerbob1 Thank this.

If I can get it into a Freightliner shop that actually has time to work on it without having me sit two days, sure.tommymonza Thanks this.

Never got it that cheap. My Schrader valves leaked out on mine, now. Got to fix that. The Valve tool is a larger type. Can’t find mine. Auto parts stores shows having them, in stock. For some reason, I had a hard time finding the one I have.( That I cant find)Farmerbob1 Thanks this.

I meant expansion valve on the van. Getting some abnormal high pressure reading on the low side when I tried to put a can in the other day with cheap recharge hose.
My gauges are up north.
I’ve yet to see what’s going on with the semi other than it’s not blowing cold .
Put some gauges on it and see what they say. Probably tear the system down and flush and reseal it , maybe new hoses while I’m at it.
Internationals have a funky heat and a/c system being everything for the front and rear heat and a/c is in a box under the passenger seat than runs through a plenum through the floor.
I found a shirt stuffed in the box for the rear heat, I’m guessing they were trying to route more heat to the windshield defrosters .
Can’t imagine the air is very warm after it runs along the cold floor to the defrosters. Same with a/c.
I am going to have to insulate under the floor outside to make it efficient
Soooo much stuff that needs doing on this truck to make it Right.
Yea I already regret not buying 2 more cases of Freon. Tough to beat $3 a canTug Toy, Farmerbob1 and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
The good thing about the IHOP, is it’s pretty handy, to work on. Though the systems are a little different. Someone here can definately help, if needed.tommymonza and Farmerbob1 Thank this.

Any authorized Detroit shop can do it if it’s as simple as an ECM setting.Farmerbob1 Thanks this.

The Crete Lenoir City terminal can do it. I will have to wait a bit, but they can do it.stuckinthemud and Long FLD Thank this.

Well, the opti idle issue was resolved, but i will need to have the steers looked at for balance. Front end wobble was not resolved at all by the alignment. After 650k miles and with the uneven wear, there was a need for alignment, but there's clearly something else as well.
If all goes as planned, I will have the steers looked at tonight. We shall see. -
