This price for repairs seems Over the top? What kind of shop is this that is quoting these prices?

What kind of warranty is it that you have? Obviously not a manufacturer warranty? Is it through your company or an aftermarket warranty like True North?

I am afraid that his warranty is gonna be asking the same questions. Like "wtf, what kind of prices are that?"
They will assign an adjuster, who will request moving the truck to a different shop, then agreeing to pay for repairs, but only part of it. Then repairs will take two months to complete or maybe even more, because the repair shop will find even more problems along the way.
In the mean time, Farmerbob keeps playing video games, becomes really good at it, starts his gaming streaming channel, starts making money and starts thanking God for the breakdown of his truck and making him find a life away from trucking.

If warranty just pays whatever the shop is asking without much hassle and shop fixes truck in less than two weeks, I will call that a freaken miracle.

Sorry, Farmerbob you have to deal with this. After having to rebuild two trucks pretty much from the ground up and spending countless days in the repair shops, I do not wish anyone going through that kind of experience

The truck is at a Freightliner dealership, South Dallas. The warrantee company is TruNorth.

As for the over the top pricing, I'm hoping that it won't be any concern of mine.

Looking at the pricing, they are quoting 19k just for the cylinder head.

I can't even find anywhere trying to sell one for more than 5k.

I suspect the warrantee company is going to shoot back a requirement that they find a reman cylinder head, and don't try to sell them the gold plated model.

I am hoping that this is simply the dealership trying to sell brand new factory parts for a huge profit, hoping they will get an inexperienced agent at the warrantee company.

Ideally, the warrantee company will look at the pricing itemization like I just did and see 19k for the cylinder head and immediately shoot back a request to re-price with a reman cylinder head, rather than a brand new one. From what I see online, that should drop the price by about 14-15k.

The EGR cooler might be the same. There's a core charge for it, so there are reman units, and the $1500 price tag for the EGR cooler will likely drop a lot too.

We shall see. Supposedly the warrantee company has analysts on duty over the weekend, so they will dig though everything over the weekend.

I would call Stewart & Stevenson, the Detroit shop and ask them about the prices. Especially on that head.

Have you considered finding a different repair shop, that repair estimate would make me have doubts about the repair shop

Has anyone called their local dealer and priced out a head for his engine?

Maybe 19 is the going rate these days. With tariffs.

I have seen cylinder heads for 2500 on different sites , seen used ones for 700 to 1000 man really feels like price gouging. EgR cooler for 1500 to 1900 , wow !
