We had rope hooks on our trailers. With rubber rope I’d go down the side and hook every other loop. That’s way when you went back and stretched it to hook every loop it wouldn’t pull your tarp off to one side. I was super OCD about having it centered on the load and having the rows of D rings line up between the front and back tarps.
With regular rope I’d loosely hook every loop down both sides and then go back and pull everything tight.
Tarping with rope and how to tie it securely?

I liked using rope in the front and back too. Especially the front. On the side flaps, if you used bungees with the hook in, unless you put some protection around the hooks, they would damage the freight. Hooks out they would damage your drop flap. Rope is way better.Walk Among Us, cke, CAXPT and 3 others Thank this.

Glad I never had to mess with flaps. One of the perks of hauling wood products I suppose. Here’s a load of 5ft wide mdf in BC on my way to Edmonton. Box end tarps weren’t ideal for this but you could still make it look good.

Ok, after seeing that pic I am never posting another pic on this site of any of the chicken scraps I get to haul

That shock cord looks shockingly awesome!

@Kyle G. For the most part, yes a single rope down each side. One on each end as well.
Depending on the load. Sometimes it would need 2, but not very often, and then usually only a short one.D.Tibbitt, cke, Kyle G. and 1 other person Thank this. -
This site is pretty good for learning knots

What is the white material you are using to cover all of the sharp edges?Tug Toy, Walk Among Us, CAXPT and 4 others Thank this.

They were a felt-type material that we used on steel. They came out of the dust collectors at the particle board plant. My old boss was there one day and they were tossing them out so he told them he’d take the pieces whenever they had any.
Those tubing loads sucked. The edges were super sharp from being cut with a hot saw and we had to use our good lumber tarps on them.Tug Toy, Walk Among Us, CAXPT and 4 others Thank this.
