Thanks for the info. I'm supposed to be already approved, but I'm going to call and make sure. I don't want any surprises when I get there. I want to be sure everything is already taken care of. Thanks for telling me about careerlink. I had forgotten about that program. I'm going to make a trip to Bedford Monday. I have about 3 weeks before I go, so maybe they can get paperwork done in that amount of time. Sounds like your doing good, keep up the good work!I'll ttyl, have a great weekend!

Hey Valkyrie, congratulations! You really seem to be learning quickly. Keep posting about your experiences. They really give hope to the other new drivers following in your footsteps.

The morning went really well. We did the test course again and I did much better. Only had a brain fart when I missed a gear.
Since it was so cold, we stayed out longer. I got to chill in the sleeper while a newer student drove for a while and we swapped a couple times. One funny event... we saw another truck dragging his trailer. His wheels were frozen on his trailer. Our instructor predicted that he'd blow the tires before the day was out.
We got back around 3:30pm and had a break. Then up to the range and having fun starting the ice-cold trucks. After they warmed up finally, I hopped into the alley-dock truck. 7 times I went around. 7 times I slid it right in. I don't know what happened over the weekend, but I guess it finally sunk in.
A very good day. =)

Day 12 was uneventful. Same as the day before with less brain farts. That afternoon I did my pre-trip inspection test for the school. 100 percent =)
Day 13 Took a new route in the morning. A very twisty, hilly route with hairpin turns, narrow lanes and steep upgrades and downgrades. A very good road to practice on watching your trailer, moving into the oncoming lane to get around stuff, and of course practicing downgrade procedures.
We were going to Bernie's but there were two flatbeds and a van trailer in the parking lot already. The van was driven by a friend of my instructor so he called him and said we would have to go somewhere else. His friend said those flatbeds were pulling out as they spoke. I got to pull off and do a U-turnThe ice in the median made the turn a little interesting when the drive wheels slipped a bit.
The drive back... a student got behind the wheel for the first time. The first time he hit the brakesI almost slid out of the sleeper bed onto the floor and the instructor slammed his shoulder off the dash. The rest of the ride was very disconcerting... I sat behind the instructor's seat so I could brace myself and did anything but watch what was going on. I have full faith in my instructor to get us anywhere safe, but I just couldn't watch. There's no way I could ever do his job.
The afternoon, I did my school tests on alley-dock, straightline, and parallel parking on both sides. All 100%
Then we did our night drive run in a different truck. It's actually a truck given to the school by Werner. It's an 8-9 speed just like the Freightliner I'm used to, but it rode sooo nice. I'm requesting that truck for my state test. I had a perfect drive.
Tomorrow is the big day... provided the weather doesn't screw things up. Wish me luck... and pray for decent weather.
Laters,

Good Luck!! From the way your posts sound, I'm sure you will do just fine! Can't wait to read your next post. (And, I can't wait to get started training!)
Hope you have a wonderful day! -Bella

Good luck to you all! Remember dont stress when there's an instructor sittin beside you--he has been where you were before! Just pay attention and dont stress and you will be just fine! Its really not that bad if you dont stress yourself out!

Hey guys,
I know I'm late, but I've been embarrassed to say I haven't passed my CDL test yet... On dry runs on the course, I'm fine. I get in with the clipboard and I choke. I'm rescheduled to go again. I'll keep going back til I get it done. I may have to reschedule my orientation with my trucking company... but I WILL get this. Don't wish me luck, just wish me calm nerves. That's what I really need.
I'll keep you posted.

I know what your going through. When I got my class 'B' I did fine all through training, then when it came time to test for my license I got nervous and totally forgot many things that came so easily to me before. But, I did pass. I tried to think of myself as being alone, as if the tester wasn't even there with me. I think that helped me get through. Lol, now in a few weeks I'll be in that spot again, where you are now. Except this time it's for my class 'A'. Don't let yourself feel intimidated. You went through your training, sounds to me like you did very good, so you know what your doing. Just take a deep breath, hold your head high, and don't let your nerves get the best of you. You can do it!

I passed my state exam today! TDI graduated me and now I wait for my ticket to orientation =)
I'll be back to post about that if anyone's interested in hearing about my training with Werner. I've heard good and bad about them so I'm afraid I'll have to see for myself. I do like their benefits package for my family.
We shall see what the future holds.

Congratulations!!
I bet you feel relieved! Please keep posting about your experience with Werner. I'd like to know how you're doing and what Werner is like. Werner was my choice, but since I have been a stay at home Mom for the last 7 years they won't hire me. They said I need recent work history. I guess a spotless driving record and background wasn't good enough.
I was even employed as a school bus driver for 6 years before choosing to stay home with my kids, and my safety record with them was excellent. But they won't look at that since it wasn't within the last 3 years. There are other places that will hire me. (Swift is one and CRST, although I'm not crazy about those.) I'll just have to suck it up for a year or two while I get the experience I need, then I will have a better choice of places to work for. But, I would like to know how you like Werner for future reference. Again, congratulations on passing! -Bella
