Hello. I have a T- mobile phone with wifi Hotspot.I use my hotspot to get on my laptop.I am in a contract with T mobile.I plan on leaving them once my contract is over.At times, I am in areas that I cannot surf on my phone or the laptop. Are there any wifi apps I can download to use as a back up?.I know most companies will charge and thats fine , as long as the fee is reasonable. If you guys remember, back in the days , the service providers will help you create either a dialoup or network access icon and you can either VPN or access their internet servers to get on the net..I am wondering if there is such an app for wifi without having to buy any device.
Techie and hot spot questions.

Your laptop and phone should have wifi, if there is a wifi network with internet connectivity there shouldn't be a problem getting your phone or laptop connected.
Maybe you can re-phrase the question? -
I will rephase.I get wifi in most places I go.I can use my phone to surf.I can also use my phone as a modem (tethering) to surf on my laptop. In some places, I have no wifi and therefore I cannot use my phone as a modem to get on my laptop.I am thinking there is an app I can download that will give me connectivity(boost mobile, sprint etc...) to get on the internet.Back in the days, I used to help customers with their Secure Id.This process gets you internet access, and I am thinking there is some technology out there like that without having to buy a wifi device. All this should be prepaid without contract. I hope explained better.

I tether my laptop to the phone every day. Maybe I'm still not getting it. What kind of phone do you have?

It's not the phone or service, T mobile is the weakest link when it comes to providers. Some areas just dont have towers/poles.Btw, I use a galaxy 6.Let's say you go to Arizona and you get in a dead area in the desert, dont you wish you had a back up prepaid wifi plan? That's the point I am trying to make
fargonaz and ramblingman Thank this. -
There's nothing you can do to get on another provider's cell network except to get a phone or air card for that provider. If there's no reception in the area at all there is nothing you can do at all short of using satellite for phone/data.

I see hotspots on ebay with plans ~120/month. Im not sure whats your budget but if having unlimited internet is important to you , you might consider it.

I figured so

Makes sense.I guess no one offers prepaid better than those T mobile towers.

I try to stop where I have a signal. No way I'm going to have two providers, just too darn expensive. AT&T has been pretty good for me, especially with unlimited everything in Canada at no extra charge. If I did a lot of WY/MT/NV/ID i'd probably get verizon(though I think they're the devil).
Sorry, Samsung phones are evil(obviously my opinion)due to their locked down nature, might as well get an iPhone.
