Up here (in the Great White North) we do a % restriction. Many secondary and gravel roads go to 75% in the spring, with some at 90%.

And here I thought that it was because it might just be turtle mating season and the vibration of the heavier loads moving was screwing up some groovin'!:biggrin_2559:

I've actually seen waves in the pavement because the the soil above the frost layer was so saturated. It looked just like a truck going across ice, and the waves could do just as much damage. (I never watch IRT, but surely they have discussed this on there.) It's not as much an issue on highways with a proper roadbed, as they both spread the load over a much larger area and are designed to allow much better sub-surface drainage. Any time you see a frost heave you can know that the engineer misjudged the amount of moisture that he needed to account for; it's why the heaves happen in the same places year after year.

And yowsa! Is Hammer chasing rabbits today, or what?:biggrin_25526:

There are alot of those type roads here in Pa. They are back country roads for the most part. We have one right by our plant, and the two other plants near us. Ummmm, yeah. Guess in those months we quit operating, lol. Not!!! It's our main road in and out so it is what it is.
