I'd ask if it wasn't too much trouble if they could move the terminal a little closer to you

When I finally needed a car after so many years without one, the battery would be drained when I got back from home time.
It has an alarm system which draws electricity.
New battery and 4 months later it was pretty much dead, and no warranty because I didn't drive it enough.
Long story short, and after a couple batteries, I started doing exactly your suggestion.
Disconnect the negative lead, and after over a year the battery is still good and it starts every time.
Yes, the radio presets are gone, but so what? I only use the CD changer for music anyway.
In those early days I got a NOCO battery jumper. It is still in the truck with a full charge, just in case. Great device, and every car should be equipped with one.bryan21384 Thanks this. -
My car sat for 4 months and still started. But it's a hybrid.
They used to make a battery with a built in reserve where you could flip a switch on the side of the battery and it would have enough power to start the vehicle. I'm not sure if they still sell it. It was expensive. You could also install a shut off switch.Oxbow Thanks this. -
That could be a major challenge right there.

I wouldn't work that far from home, but I did spend about 2 years in the Pacific Northwest about 2,000 miles from home. It meant I worked my last 10 months without seeing home at all.
The less often you get home, the less problem a long commute CAN cause IF YOU HAVE A RELIABLE CAR & SECURE PARKING FOR YOUR CAR. Consider moving to a location that either gives you more work options or makes your work life easier. People like to complicate their lives, justify the complications, and complain how hard their complicated life has become. Don't do that. Also, nobody wants to hear about it if you do.
Only you can decide what is worth the hassle. -
