Hi, I am so worried for my husband since he got terminated from his job, he's been a truck driver for 16 years, and a tanker driver for 8 years without an accident and has a clean record. In Dec of 2023, he slightly hit a light pole and got a den on the tanker, the den was big like children's hands but my husband was so nervous at that moment so he didn't report to the manager until he got back to the yard around 6 am. He texted the manager but didn't tell him the truth, he said he didn't know what happened. The manager tells him to stay home don't come back to work yet, and tell my husband to write the report, and in the report, my husband tells the truth, what happened and why caused the den. My husband sent a text message to the manager to apologize that he didn't tell the truth, and my husband sent the report to the manager's email.
It was on the weekend so the manager didn't want to reply, Monday morning, my husband called the manager, and he didn't pick up the phone, later on, he texted my husband and told him to come to the office.
When my husband met the manager, he told my husband that the company couldn't keep him due to he did not tell the truth at first. My husband received the termination letter and the reason is "Volate company policy".
Now we applying for jobs from other companies, and some companies request that fill out the DOT form, may I ask if DOT will provide the reason why my husband got fired by the company requesting a DOT check?
    Thank you so much!

The moment any incident happens it must be reported immediately.
The whole not telling the truth is a double no no.

Your husband needs to ask that question to his former employer. Also, he needs to be 100 percent honest on his applications for new employers if he plans to continue drivng commercially.

It will most likely be listed as an at fault accident on his employment record. The reason for termination is not listed on the employment verification forms sent between employers when they are doing their checks.

It's usually just a simple like, "is the employee eligible for rehire? Yes or no". But your husband needs to be honest when questioned by new potential employers about why he left because some of them will pick up the phone and call former employers instead of solely using the form.

Right now, places are being real picky so many are only taking the best of the best. Your husband needs to prove he worth hiring over his competitors.

I doubt the tank itself was dented; probably just the outer shell that's usually stainless steel.
Between that outer shell and the tank itself is several inches of space. That space has insulation and hot water pipes used for in-transit heating.
He can find another job easy enough; maybe not with tankers though.
He can just tell the new companies he applies with that he put a dent in the outer shell of the trailer and didn't report it quickly enough.

Well, not sure what you want from us, he pretty much cooked his goose. Besides, what did mom always say? Tell the truth, it's a lot harder to cover up a lie than to just tell it like it is. I don't think it's the end of the road, but it may take a while. Good luck. Companies today go on figures. If someone lies when damaging equipment, more may be on the way. Insurance had their hands in this one, I bet. As bad as it sounds, he should have just stayed with the lie. Ironically, he'd probably still have a job. We've ALL told the boss that at one time or another, "Gee boss, beats me", but today, with cameras everywhere, it's not that easy.

It isn't a slight hit, if you contact the pole, it is a problem.

The dent is something else that needs to be shown because it could be a hit at a seam or some other place that could compromise the tank, your description isn't good without an image.

I wish drivers would realize that it COSTS money for everything, and drivers should pay for some of the damage they do.

Lying is a different issue, if the damage was severe where the truck was down, and my driver admitted to lying, he/she is gone.
